So overall vod like itunes and vudu are flat. dvd sales are shrinking. Blu ray sales are flat. Comcast cable and dish streaming is shrinking and digital streaming like Netflix is growing (mostly at the cost of all other media forms particularly cable).

All this really shows is people are spending less on media in general. Quite a bit less in general when you consider they aren't counting cables losses while adding in netflix growth to paint a rosy picture.

I was looking at the preorder description for Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 11 on Blu-ray and DVD...

"Available on BLU-RAY and DVD, this Season 11 "Collector's Box Set" is perfect for people who love downloading video, but still need something to display on the shelf. Or who can't get high-speed internet."

Their reasoning reminded me of this thread.

I am convinced Kodi/Android boxes preloaded with content are to blame.

However, like I have said, with Netflix/Amazon, the genie is out of the bottle. Disc is the last sucesful media in terms of collecting.

That article, IMO is just cookie cutter stuff. They completely disguise the fact that streaming/Digital throws in Netflix/Amazon subscriptions and revenue. A really obvious trick that no one is falling for anymore IMO. like for like please, or simply don't make the comparison in the first place.

They want to be down with the kids. Like I said, marketing blurb. It's the Internet age after all.

What boxes loaded with content? If it's the boxes with Kodi I think you're talking about no content is loaded on them. It has apps that will illegally stream movies, but they're not loaded with movies.

Illegal content. People load the boxes with stuff then sell them to the public. Surely you know this?

Like I have said, it's all Digital now so throw in the towel, Disc is on the way out it's just a matter of time. I'd really be surprised if 8k Discs came out, I'm sure 8k Movies will come out but the Storage Device will be something else. I think Media Servers.

It's not "loaded" with anything. It's just apps that stream the content. It's illegal all the way. I just think you have a different idea of what they are and do. It does nothing different than you could do with your phone, tablet, or computer. Again not saying it's legal or right.

If disc goes, so does cheap codes. Don't you see the issue here?

Ok, illegally modified Kodi boxes that contain films and tv pre installed. These boxes are the sold on to the public (many of whom don't have the know how to do it themselves). Buying a Kodi box and linking it to your tv is not illegal. Buying it with installed apps that contain large collections of films obviously is illegal. Is that clear enough for you? Or are you going to dispute every ******* word I say?

Again the boxes don't actually contain the movies and shows. I'm disputing what you're saying because what you're saying is wrong. Is that clear enough for you?

No, people put the software on the boxes and then sell them on at profit. This is known as a 'fully loaded' Kodi box. Therefore the boxes do contain the movies. If they didn't, why would people buy them? The software/apps are already installed for the end user. This means they have access to sport, film and tv. All for free.

I hate the idea, but it is happening.

Why would people buy them? Because they're morons? Good enough answer? It's not fully loaded with anything than simple apps any idiot could get. Android allows anything to be installed once you check a stupid little box to allow third party installations. From there you could do whatever you want. These boxes do absolutely nothing special. They're just snake oil salesmen. In the end though absolutely no movies or shows are actually on these things when sold. That's why they are legally sold. Similar to selling something with an emulator isn't illegal, but the roms are. These things are just simple apps.

Just read any article about the latest uproar with Kodi boxes, Sky tv, Virgin Tv etc.. in the U.K. The government has just stepped in because people are buying these boxes with sky movies (all the big releases) Sky sport and Sky tv pre installed. I have already said there is nothing illegal about the boxes themselves. It's the software that is installed on them and then sold ILLEGALLY to the public. Some guy has just been fined 250,000 for doing so I understand.

Sky are a bunch of d-bags, but that's unrelated to this. Anyway these boxes are technically legal here in the US because the movies aren't actually on them. You won't see big box stores selling them, but the simple act of selling these boxes isn't illegal. Nothing about the software is technically illegal. That's even why shutting down torrent programs was so hard because the simple act of the program isn't illegal...It's what people do with them that is. I don't agree or encourage this stuff. Just trying to point out what they actually are. If you have no internet access....You'll watch absolutely NOTHING.

Yes, but I'm from UK. Not sure what you even arguing about. I stated early in the discussion that they are not illegal but selling them with copyright material on them obviously is. Whether that's a app or software is irrelevant. It's the illegal content that's the issue and a possible cause of lost revenue for U.K cable/Satellite companies. People can buy these illegally with instant access to films without doing anything their end.

The whole thing stemmed from you repeatedly thinking there was actual content on the boxes. About as simple as that. You seem to hate when someone points something out the contradicts what you think.

Even if physical media eventually stops being released in the decades it takes for that to happen billions of discs will be manufactured and put into customers hands. None of those discs can ever be taken away. That's absolutely something worth supporting as long as possible.

Take into account the bandwidth required to stream 4k. Many people do not have the ability to do this. To reach the maximum amount of people, because, you know, studios are in business to sell content first and foremost, you have to release it on disc.

I actually have the necessary speed to stream 4K, but I plan to have all my 4K content 100% on disc when I eventually update my tv. You have to remember, speed is only part of the equation. Bandwidth caps are a thing, and 4K movies can eat that up quick.

Media server distribution will only work if I can take my hard drive into (insert retailer here) and have them copy the movie to my HDD. It remains to be seen if this becomes a thing. Until then, physical + digital remains the best way to sell content to the most users.
