You're right, Blu-rays Average at 30Mbps, but can go up. I do have some bad news for you, Cinema has gone Digital. There are a few die hard Film left, but most are Digital on Hard Drives. So the next step here is Streaming from Servers.

I have news for you. Film is making a comeback. Pretty sure the next Star Wars is going to be on film for a start.

But the vast majority of films are shot on digital these days. There's no denying that. |

I have pretty much come to the point where I refuse to buy digital movies and I wont buy a physical movie by itself unless it has a extreme discount. The best combination is when a blu ray includes a digital copy. That way I feel like I get portability, ownership and security. Both sides have valid benefits so it would be best if the studios stopped trying to create a death battle between the 2 mediums and simply accepted that they do well together (at least that is the only form of distribution I support with my money).

I still buy discs but not that many anymore. I don't want to invest in media yet again as far as 4K goes. I have been around for the entire run of physical media dating back to vinyl discs and collections just become overbearing and eventually tossed into boxes or thrown away. Digital is fine for me. I own my personal essentials on disc in case of a prolonged internet outage. We don't have to like it, but things are trending towards digital. The individuals in this forum love to collect and the absolute best quality is paramount, but they represent the minority. Most people don't collect movies anymore and prefer the convenience of streaming or digital ownership and are not that critical when it comes to the visual or audio quality of their movies. It is personally depressing to see stores slowly cutting back on their physical media sections, but it is where things are heading.

Also, did you see the numbers Star Wars did? That's a lot for a supposed majority who don't collect movies, don't you think? If indeed, you are right though, that is bad news regardless of which camp you are in. A rental market is not great. Last edited by Steedeel; 05-12-2016 at 04:34 PM. |

It is kind of scary to think about movies in the future only being digital and not on disc. A movie can theoretically disappear from existence. The game/demo PT on PlayStation was taken down and even if you downloaded it in the past you can't now. When whatever PS4's have the game on it die or are wiped the game will forever be wiped. Sure you can say it was just a demo, but it shows the possibility of it happening again. I can go buy a copy of Pong on eBay, but in the future there may be movies that disappear for good.
