Only one week of green arrows ? That's pretty disappointing.

We need side by side blockbusters. Hopefully the flow will increase considerably next year. Regardless, 4K disc is viable product now, look forward to adding to my collection.

We sure do, I just thought that Top Gun: Maverick would have made an impact for at least a few more weeks.

Ownership of movies (physical & EST) combined are not what they were several years ago. Two reasons: 1 - Folks just don't seem interested in owning. 2 - Not very many tentpoles released each year and the vaults have already been mined of all the catalog tentpoles. I look here at least once every month and it looks nothing like it did 8 to 10 years ago.

There are several catalog titles that I believe would do really well but they remain in limbo. Example, True Lies and The Abyss has been in my AMAZON BD Coming list for over 11 years. Is there really a good source of T2, if so, I would procure for about the 7th time.

Default What's Wrong With This Picture

Black Friday UHD sales upward of 25%, yet Blu-ray/UHD revenue down nearly 20+% in a year led with Top Gun: Maverick as opposed to a year with COVID restrictions and little to no new blockbusters.

UHD sales are a bigger slice....of an ever smaller pie.

I never believed for an instant that a few all-new releases this year, the appeal of Top Gun Maverick notwithstanding, would reverse a more than decade long decline in physical media sales. These all-new releases appear to have made a small dent in the rate of decline as compared to last year.

After three quarters of 2021, physical media sales were down 21.61%:

After three quarters of 2022, physical media sales were down 16.2%:

While the Covid restrictions of last year have mostly abated, record inflation has been on a rampage this year and it can only have had a negative impact on discretionary purchases like physical media.

On the plus side, 2022 has been a banner year for new and catalog releases on the 4K UHD disc format and on blu-ray both. No complaints from this collector on that point.

There has been a 3 month gap in blockbusters this year so hardly a steady flow of theatrical releases(Many catalogue releases on disc plus indies) ) Collectors have what they want, a VAST range of products at a steady stream. Heck, we got our first 4K porn film this year.

It’s a great time to be a collector. Some people claimed 4K wouldn’t even make it as a format, people like yourself who make the same claims EVERY single year, hoping that this is the year they finally get it right.

Better luck next year (and the next, and the next after that)

Oh, and stop with the sensationalist headlines, it’s not remotely clever.

Not sure why you are not banned yet. Every year you are full of glee about Blu-ray/disc sales being down which is a direct violation of forum rules. It’s one thing to state figures and add comments, it’s another to be full of joy and spouting sensational, inflammatory headlines.

You obviously lack from self-awareness, given the fact you have banned on multiple occasions, most recently for what was it, a month? If you don't know, who would?

That said, maybe I can help. Unlike you, I don't personally attack fellow members for their opinions, and also unlike you, I actually have opinions of substance as opposed to your endless divisiveness.

All I've ever stated on this subject is the opinion that the physical media market would transition from a mass market to a niche market, that there would be benefits, e.g., the rise of boutique labels and mining of catalogs in niche markets, along with liabilities, the shrinking of available titles in brick & mortar stores, limited availability and higher prices for certain titles, streaming-only exclusives, etc.

No more, no less. The fact is you seem to have an issue with the truth.

No surprise here, but certain members have stuck to the party line of this is temporary, sales will bounce back, and the lack of a retail presence would not impact sales or does not represent an inconvenience.

Now we know what your opinions are worth, nothing more than utter nonsense, all so you can say you are part of a group. Whatever, but some of us actually have informed opinions and are interested in what the future of physical media will represent.

I don't know what to tell you other than if you have issue with the fact physical media sales drop by 20% every year, you need to take it up with Media Play News. After all, they're not my numbers, and I'm not the one posting their research.

Just to prove that there are no hard feelings, after all, it is the holiday season and you just got back from being banned for the fourth or fifth time, here's the address and number:
