W.T.F. Beeb?

Reminds me of when I sent my defective copy of Godzilla vs. Biollante (missing rear channel) back to Echo Bridge and they kept sending me the SAME DEFECTIVE DISC BACK! I went back and forth with them for so long that the person I was dealing with said they no longer had the license and would not be sending a replacement after the last one.

Good job, BBC.

8 discs this time? I'll get this for Earthshock and the studio footage.

Hope this release isn't blighted by QC issues too. I won't be pre-ordering this time.

I'll hold off on being excited after so many issues with this set. Glad I didn't buy it yet as it sounds like a nightmare. Still they have history with their releases being messed up; I recall having to send back The Day of the Doctor from the limited edition set as it had an issue.

Hello! I'm from Spain and I bought season 12 from Amazon UK. For the replacement discs should I contact Amazon or this email DVDSupport@bbc.com? Also looking forward to season 19 release.

Season 19 thread

I personally think it would have been neater to change the name of this one to Doctor Who: The Collection and just update it like the Criterion thread but hey ho!

They're going out in batches. Steve Roberts suggested that they may hold other batches given the new issue that's arisen.

Is this set fully sold out in the UK?
Or are they waiting to make sure all sets have correct discs before selling more copies?

Same here. Used to watch eps after primary school on ABC. Will definitely be getting this set too.

Did the Aussie set get corrected discs (since it came out a month later) OR did they have the faulty ones? Want to buy my Father ‘n Law a set for Fathers Day, but need to know if the set will be a dud.

I opened my set just now. Doesn’t look too good, since the Aussie discs have the UK ratings logo.

Yeah. The audio is tinny on Episode 1 only of Disc 3 (as the above replacement program to Australia confirms).

On my Yamaha RX-V385, I changed the decode to 2ch, which helped a bit, but pushed the sound out wide.
DPL II was probably the best solution, putting it in all 5 speakers (sounded better in the rears).

Going to see how bad it sounds on my old Sony (bedroom TV) with my Multi-Region BD player (set permanently to C), since I only have a SPDIF soundbar hooked up. Thus, when audio goes via the internal TV speakers, it won’t decode DTS and it will output in PCM (want to see how bad it sounds without a receiver, to see if I will need to get replacement discs for my Father ‘n Laws set).

BTW, where is the video issue on Disc 5?

Checked the audio issue on D3, Ep1 through the TV output and while it is still there (sound being pushed out to the sides), it is not as tinny as it was when my Yamaha was deciding the lossless track.

Thanks hariseldon for the D5 error list. While it has been established that Aussie’s are suffering same issues as UK (since the discs are the UK pressings), I checked through Issue 1,3 & 5.

1 - Yep. Spelling error.

3 - The issue is quite strange. When I go frame my frame, it is probably 2-3 interlaced frames that suffer, leading to that instantaneous jerk.

5 - As stated, the credits are there on the Aussie transfer (UK).

Will still pick this up for my Father ‘n Law and try and get him the replacements before Sunday Sept 2nd OR I’m sure he will just be stoked to get the set the way it is (since on a TV the audio difference isn’t as bad and the blip at the end of ROTC is only a flicker).

I’m sure he will watch the old SFX, but for me, I prefer newer ones. When watching Star Trek OS on BD, I always put on the newly created SFX.

Thanks again for the support form this thread.

TLDR: The Aussie set has all the same issues as the UK set (Audio issues D3Ep1 (“Tinny sound”) and D5 has some issues (see post above).
For replacement discs, see the post 3 posts ago.

Wow! Just watched the “Cheques, Lies and Videotape” extra on Disc 5...

I couldn’t believe how starved of Doctor Who the UK was in the early ‘80s.
Was not surprised when they revealed that the origin of the bootleg VHS’ of Pertwee & Baker was Australia.
Since I am an Australian Gen X’er, I recall watching old Doctor Who Episodes (Pertwee, Baker) every weeknight. And, as I stated earlier, I was a big fan of Davison. By the end of the Sixth Doctor, I began to lose interest... But I’m glad that these collections are comic to Blu-Ray, so I can relive my childhood.

PS. Any Aussie members out there, who have e-mailed Roadshowrequesting replacement discs, how long did it take to get a reply (if any), from Roadshow?

Edit: Got an email back just over an later and I’m told it may take up to 5-6 weeks.

Default Australian Blu Ray?

Does anybody know if this is still available to buy in the UK. I should have bought it from Amazon UK when I had the chance. I can buy it for £74 from Australia. Can anyone tell me if the Australian version is identical to the UK one? I mean are they both the same or is the packaging or anything else different? Thanks.

Australian version is identical to the UK one but has the same issues as well. Getting disc replacements could be a nightmare as Roadshow haven't done overseas replacements in the past.

I'm annoyed with the BBC over the UK version. They advertised it as limited edition packaging and made suggestions about the longevity in this release in one form or another but are now saying they have no plans to make any more in any form. Given the demand and the fact this is supposed to be the first in a big collection, I think they haven't a clue, personally.
