I was wondering where the 4K rumor originated from, considering there was no source posted by the member in the Steelbook thread.

The Steelbook looks nice though. I'll consider it.

I think the Dealsareus listing originally stated that it was 4K. They also said the new release of Halloween III(?) was a Blu-ray/DVD combo instead of a 4K/Blu-ray combo. There was probably a mix-up somewhere. They have since corrected it.

Cover art is the same as the OG DVD release. Nothing special...

I prefer the standard Blu-ray cover over the Steelbook. As you said, it's nothing special.

Looks like Shout is reissuing it in a steelbook case, right? Well, the lithograph is a bonus if you order direct and from their wording, it'll be the same (theatrical) artwork as the cover of the steelbook.

Since people love to keep using transfer to describe releases (even when it confuses more than helps), it is of the second UK BD. The first is better, as it retains the proper grain structure, while the second has quite a lot of DNR, sharpening and some ugly contrast boosting to make it look “better,” when it makes it significantly worse. Still, said second UK BD is what GKids has used on their NA releases, so you’re stuck with it unless region free.

The only way we’re going to see a better release of Perfect Blue is if it gets an upgrade to 4K UHD and that’s a big “if,” because it also depends on who’s involved.

Yes, I'm region-free, and I currently have this:

If I understand you correctly, there's no reason for me to get the Region A release.

Hey… I’m not region free, but in Japan so I can watch U.K. DVDs. I’m deciding which version to buy (I already have the old manga DVD). Considering the problems with the newer releases’ image, do you think it’s better to get the 2013 Anime Ltd DVD?

I’m in Japan, so I can get a Japanese one too (provided it has subs), but if it’s the same overly-DNRd situation then it’s the same problem.
