I go every year and for a couple of years I know you dressed up as Thor, I think, right? Not to sound creepy but if I had ever seen you I would have said hello.
I only get Sunday tickets because I prefer "smaller" crowds. LOL I go nuts for indie comics. I always walk out with a few full-run series. |

So I’ve done some work to the cape attachment system. That is the most difficult part of this outfit. Two years ago I had a professionally made cape for cosplay. It’s beautiful, it’s also very heavy. It weighs close to 10lbs,
![]() The cape has an elastic banding system that would criss-cross the front torso to the back then snap together. Then you would put an outfit over top of it and it gets pulled put. Problem is, it’s very uncomfortable and it has cut lines across my front and back while wearing it that way. Not to mention that during NYCC I wear it for 12-15hrs per day for two days. So I’m always trying to figure out how best to make a system so I don’t have to wear it that way. Believe it or not, it takes several months for those lines across my body to finally go away. I can thank all my time in the gym for that as I’m rather broad across the top and taper down to the waist. I’m not sure if this will even work like I’ve been planning and scheming. I won’t know until almost the entire outfit is done as I still have ti cut and create the shoulder pieces out of EVA foam as that’s part of the system. So I used 2” nylon strap belt material. Two sections front and back by each shoulder. I used my trusty snap tool to install multiple snaps onto the straps. They are 10” each, folded over to 5” then slid to put the collarbone are sandwiched between then they re attach d to the shirt. Helping me out through this is my trusty assistant Rick; anybody know why I call him Rick? ![]() 9D8CB7D8-84AA-4C96-8137-0FBC90B0D4B1.jpg AA064B8A-1024-4A23-8807-C1D986BB0256.jpg I slid a rolled up white paper towel so that it’s easier for you to see. The cape slides through those two straps from front to back, then loops back over itself and re-snaps onto the strap top. 29477099-C701-4C4A-9FF5-0C2F12C70AA3.jpg 5D3162F4-C766-4831-B4F7-09B9D9CF0EA5.jpg Next I’ll give you a peek at the temp fitting of the cape utilizing the attachment system. |

So after all that work, I was brainstorming with my Daughter and I think I/we found a better way to attach the cape.
![]() ![]() I did a quick temp test and it shows lots of promise. I’ll keep you guys posted. ![]() Just so you understand, Rick was no help at all to me. Despite my talking to him this afternoon while working. ![]() |

So, while I’m awaiting a delivery from Prime, I decided to get going on the shoulder pieces of the outfit. My character, The BrOdinson is based on the Silver Age version of Thor. Part of his body armor is the large standout and protecting shoulder sections.
I have fashioned a pair of those shoulder pieces from EVA foam. This is the same foam that most cosplayers use to build armor, weapons, etc. my use for these pieces are simple, single cut pieces. They will attach to the spandex body with clothing/device snaps. The snaps are incorporated onto pieces of 2” wide nylon strap commonly found on bad straps and handles, watch bands etc. The first two pictures shows unmade snaps and the snap compression tool. The second picture is of the completed nylon strap section with the straps installed. That is done so the strap can be attached to it. The foam is heated to slightly open up the scoring, then, hot glue is applied to the scored area then the strap will be attached to it. The other part of the snap that will engage and lock to the glued section will be put directly onto the spandex top, then the shoulder pieces get snapped onto the outfit. The snaps will not be seen as they are placed and engaged on the underside of the piece. 051EFFF4-F777-4F0C-929A-F798EB4A4CC0.jpg 88DB48AB-FB6A-4127-BD1E-4CC3E46B16C7.jpg 0F857255-98CD-4BF7-A8EE-F8E44AD3FDAE.jpg The cut corners will be sanded to smoothness, then several layers of primer is sprayed onto each Sodexo seal it and allow it to be painted. They will be airbrushed with opaque Black, two layers, then for protection of wear and UV effects, several layers of matte clear acrylic sealer top coat to protect the foam and the paint. When I do that, I’ll post pictures of each stages of prep. |
