It can be enlightening and also a bit of a safety measure depending on how you use your tracking. For me it helps ensure I am somewhat sticking to a budget and spacing out my purchases. On the same document I also track what I watch throughout the year and any gifts I am given. It makes for a neat document to review each year. I just posted my 2019 year in review the other night and as I was doing so found films that I bought last January on it that I haven't watched yet that I didn't realize I had owned as long as I had.
