Namco Bandai Games announced at the “Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2013” event at the Akihabara UDX & Belle Salle in Tokyo on Sunday that a new Sword Art Online game is in the works. Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is scheduled to ship for the PlayStation Vita next year at a price to be announced later.

The story takes place in the unexplored "Hollow Area" of Aincrad. Protagonist Kirito explores the area with a mysterious girl.

Namco Bandai Games released the Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment game for the PlayStation Portable in March. A separate Sword Art Online End World game will begin running on the Gree mobile phone platform this winter.

Well Namco didn't localize the PS Vita version of One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 since they think that PS Vita is a system that's too niche for not enough people owning it. Like people buy the system and then good games get localized for it. A PS3 release would give it a better chance.

While it is true that Namco has done things like releasing videogames based off of Anime series in Europe but not America, but doubt this will turn into something like that.

Also the Anime is a hit on Toonami which airs Sundays at 2AM, but One Piece is also popular on Toonami which airs Sundays at 1AM. So it's like saying having the series being popular does not necessarily mean the game will be localized. But it also doesn't mean giving up hope unless Namco says no.

More information about Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment comes from Dengeki PlayStation. The magazine reports that the PlayStation Vita game will have co-op, but Namco Bandai is keeping the details a secret for now.

Also, the map feels spacious and you can see the horizon on it. In combat, players can continuously attack an enemy by pressing auto attack and the regular attack button. Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will have more romance elements between Kirito and the game’s heroines such as holding hands with them.

Namco Bandai is considering to have some kind of save data transfer feature in Hollow Fragment that connects to the PSP game Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment. Seven Days Way, the company that created the story for the Sword Art Online series is working on the story for the Vita game.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is slated for release next year on Vita.

Namco Bandai recently announced a new Sword Art Online game for PlayStation Vita, titled Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, which will include co-op to go with spacious fields for Kirito and co. to explore. Dengeki gives us a glimpse of the game’s new heroine and a few more details on the game.

The new character’s name has yet to be revealed, but thus far, we know that she’ll be meeting Kirito in the new unexplored “Hollow Area” of a reborn Aincrad.

The above is a look at the new Hollow Area, that appears to be part of some sort of ruins. There’s a certain reason as to why this new area hasn’t been explored, until now.

According to the report, Namco Bandai will be using fan feedback gathered from their previous PSP game, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, to vastly improve the upcoming game’s system. They say they will be adding a variety of interesting content to appeal to fans of the Sword Art Online series.

The Hollow Area is a new part of Aincrad with a dense forest temple area to explore. The battle system is designed to feel more like Sword Art Online compared to the PSP game. The speed is faster and the step system lets you move around an enemy to evade attacks which makes fights feel more active.

The Hollow Reaper is one of the new bosses players will face in the Hollow Area.

Namco Bandai’s new Sword Art Online game for PlayStation Vita will be made to have more action to match the feel of the actual series, compared to their earlier PSP game. Today, the publisher provided a look at the game’s battle system and its special “Burst” gauge and attack features.

Unlike the PSP title, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, where the battles revolved around auto-attacks, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment introduces a new “Burst Gauge” system to pull off special attacks.

The new action-based system with attacks that are done by pressing buttons to do “Burst Attacks” which use up the meter.

As long as the meter keeps filling up, you’ll get to keep using Burst Attacks; however, while the damage will continue increasing, there’s some sort of “Risk” involved, which is indicated with its own meter to the right of the Burst Gauge.

The “step” feature also uses the Burst Gauge, which is used to do short-dashes towards different directions.

The step feature will have its offensive and defensive uses, as it can be used to evade enemy attacks or quickly dash behind them for a positional advantage.

As long as your Burst Gauge isn’t empty, you’ll get to keep using Burst Attacks and steps, but knowing how to use them and making sure it doesn’t run out will be the key of winning fights.

If things start looking dicey in the middle of your Burst Attack, you can always use a step to cancel the attack for an evasion, then step again towards the enemy to continue doing more damage. The steps will also work for canceling out auto-attacks.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be Namco Bandai’s latest game in the Sword Art Online series, that will be focusing more on movement and special attacks to match the feel of the actual series. This week’s Dengeki PlayStation magazine shares new details on the upcoming Vita game.

According to the report, the new mystery heroine who you’ll be meeting in the new unexplored “Hollow Area” of the reborn Aincrad, goes by the name Philia. In addition to Asuna, there will be other partners you’ll get to team up with, and they will also come with their own actions.

Namco Bandai previously teased that the game will have co-op, and according to magazine reports, it will be through ad-hoc connectivity, where four players along with their partners can team up for an eight-man party to take on the dungeons of the new Aincrad.

Those of you who might’ve been concerned about having to play as Kirito, and possibly having a full party of nothing but Kirito clones, worry no more! Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will allow you to customize Kirito according to your preference, by being able to change his face, hairstyle, voice and more.

Namco Bandai recently shared some new information on their upcoming PlayStation Vita title, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, that introduces a new character to the series by the name of Philia, along with Kirito customizations and four player co-op. The game’s official website updates us with new actions and more.

Here’s another look at Philia, the mysterious girl Kirito meets at the “Hollow Area”.

In Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, you’ll be able to explore the world with your own partners. The game features a partner system that allows for different actions such as holding hands, after furthering your relationship status with the character.

If holding hands isn’t enough, you can also be your partner’s knight in shining armor by holding them in your arms, as you walk around town.

In the previous PSP title, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, there was a town called Arc Sophia, where the characters used as a home base to strategize for their next dungeon run. The town will also be there in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, and it’s also where you’ll be starting the game.

You can do more than step into Kirito’s shoes in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. The PlayStation Vita game lets you switch between two view points a normal camera and a first person view.

Yes, you can hold hands with your partner character while walking around Aincrad in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. If your relationship is deep enough you can even carry them around town.

In story mode you play as Kirito, but you can change your avatar in multiplayer mode. Here’s a look at different avatars from Kirito to a Kirito cosplayer in the middle to an original character.

Multiplayer supports up to four players and each player can bring a partner character. Altogether, you’ll have eight characters adventuring together.

Namco Bandai will release Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment for PlayStation Vita on April 24, 2014. The Vita game will cost 6,170 yen ($60) or 9,980 yen ($97) if you opt for the limited edition.

The limited edition includes a soundtrack CD, a Blu-ray disc with special content, a special case for the discs, mini clear poster, Dengeki NerveGear Vol. 2, a boxed copy of the game, and a code that gives you a special costume bundled in a box with an illustration drawn by abec.

Also keep an eye out for Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment’s next trailer, which will be released on December 13.

Looks like Asuna won’t be the only girl you can be holding hands with in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, as Dengeki reveals that Leafa, Silica, and all the heroines from the previous PSP game, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, will be joining the upcoming Vita title.

The screenshot above is a look at an event featuring Leafa along with a character by the name of Sinon, who appeared in the PSP game and the light novel series. This is just one of the many events that will be featured in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. Events will also have a touch-screen feature, allowing you to go through them with ease.

Here’s another look at the mystery heroine by the name of Philia, who Kirito will be meeting in the Hollow Area, an unexplored part of the new Aincrad. According to Dengeki, Philia is an “Orange Player,” meaning that she has previously committed some sort of crime.

We also get a glimpse of the Hollow Area, along with a look at screen that shows various displays. There will be two completely new maps along with new bosses. On the right is a look at one of the new boss fights, where you can see a party of eight characters taking it on.

I may have stopped posting news for this game, but this is the kind of news that we really wanted to know.

Bandai Namco Games announced at their Global Gamers Days event on Tuesday that Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be downloadable on PlayStation Vita in North America this summer.

By exploring the 76 cities in Aincrad, players can pick up new friends and party members for their adventures. Kirito can also deepen his relationship with his partners by hanging out with them in the cities, going out on dates, or holding hands. The game will include characters Asuna (Haruka Tomatsu), Lisbeth (Ayahi Takagaki), Silica (Rina Hidaka), Yui (Kanae Itō), Leafa (Ayana Taketatsu), Shinon (Miyuki Sawashiro), Strea (Sachika Misawa), Sachi (Saori Hayami), Kibaou (Tomokazu Seki), and Argo (Shiori Izawa). A new, original character named Philia (Yui Ishikawa) will play an integral part in the game's plot.

In the game's special "adventure mode," players have the option to create their own characters and play with up to eight other people online to go on quests in the Hollow Area. The game will additionally have a dating element where players can go on dates that could possibly end with pillow talk.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will ship for the PlayStation Vita in Japan on Thursday, April 24. The first limited edition of the game will bundle a "Dengeki NerveGear Vol. 2" booklet that will also include fan illustrations with the theme "slave of Aincrad." The game's 9,980-yen (US$100) limited first edition will include a box with exclusive artwork by original novel illustrator abec, a soundtrack CD, a product code to unlock a special in-game outfit, a special contents Blu-ray Disc, mini clear posters, and special package and cases. The standard edition will retail for 6,170 yen (about US$62).

I mean, obviously they (N-B) acknowledge a demand in NA, and allow the download, but I can't imagine playing a RPG without understanding any of the text...

Well since its coming to America, it will at least have English text/subs. Maybe the English dub voice cast may return even though that is iffy for it being digital only, but for sure will have English text when localized.

If a download version isn't your thing, there's a Taiwan version for retail that includes English text. (Though probably not the best English text, but better than not understanding the Japanese text).

I might have misread... Now it looks like an official NA release, where I thought it was just them confirming that NA could download from the JP PSN...

Between that and the new PSP/ps1 game openings, I might just get me a new LCD vita when they come out

Well personally I think its a pain in the ass when it comes to downloaded games and DLC if you have multiple PSN accounts for PS Vita. It basically becomes a even if Japan wants American fans to buy the Japanese PSN version, they are better off getting the Japanese retail or Taiwan retail version since there's no hassle there unless you want DLC. But even then its mostly for people who use their Japanese PSN account as their main.

And for the case of the Taiwan retail, I'm guessing it would cost more with import fees than the US digital version would be...?
