Farewell My Concubine will likely follow, as both are £10.99 at HMV too.

Awesome! Studiocanal could learn a thing or two about pricing...

Ordered Comfort and Joy for £17.99 or (14.99 -VAT) on day 1 only to see it reduced by £2 the next day.

Would've been great if SC priced classics more appropriately.

Where did you buy Comfort & Joy from? If you pre-ordered it from Amazon, you should be refunded the £2 automatically. If it doesn't go through automatically for some reason, talk to them on chat and they'll definitely refund it!

StudioCanal are notoriously patchy with their prices, particularly with Vintage Classics titles (and other older films, especially restored ones). For example, I saw Hiroshima, Mon Amour for £13 in Fopp the other day, but it's generally £15+ everywhere else. Eureka, BFI and Arrow titles are generally all under £15 new unless they have extra discs or booklets or special packaging, so StudioCanal don't really have an excuse to ask £15+ for a 1-disc Amaray edition (often with no booklet or slipcover). I often wait for them to fall to a tenner or so before I buy them, as they're generally overpriced (though I did buy The Third Man at full whack last year).

As for the low price for BFI titles, it seems to be HMV who set the low prices, and then Amazon match them. Most standard titles are £10.99 unless they include secondary Blu-ray discs (e.g. Underground, Chaplin, Welles etc). However, I notice that Farewell My Concubine doesn't come with a booklet and only has one special feature...so I'm not sure whether I should wait a few months 'til it drops below £10 to get that.

But yeah, Bande a part is a great price and jam-packed with extras. No doubt it'll be a perfect transfer too, much like Vivre sa vie! I'm definitely getting that one, but am going to wait 'til the week before and decide if Farewell My Concubine and Culloden/The War Game are worth keeping the pre-order for or not.

It was from Amazon indeed, however I can see now it's back to 17.99 / At first thought I could be hallucinating but no upon looking up the price history on Camelx3 ... It was actually 15.99 yesterday.

Don't mind paying day one prices for the likes of The Third Man, that collector's edition was worth every penny. However their remaining low profile releases need much exposure which won't happen if they go on pricing them in a terrible fashion.

I highly appreciate folks at Eureka and Arrow not only they do great transfers but also know how to market and sell their titles pretty well.

Just look at SC's lack of interest or enthusiasm on the Godard boxset... Despite the exposure from the on-going JLG films festival, I believe they took almost no positive advantage of it.

Gonna go ahead and order Bande a part ... As for Fopp, wish they were more spread out like big brother HMV... Love their prices and probably my only reason to visit Covent Garden when in London.

Well seeing as it dropped you should still be entitled to a £2 refund. Just ask them on chat, honestly! They can see the lowest price their end and always happy to refund the difference, especially considering you had pre-ordered it.

Yeah, The Third Man was definitely their best edition and was somewhat fairly priced for what you got. I think I paid about £19 in the end, and the set is lovely. If they did the same for Ran, for example, I'd be happy to pay the same...but instead it looks like it'll just be an Amaray (though they may add postcards and a slipcover or something, but still find it hard to justify the price point when I'm paying £5 less for similar packages from other labels).

I think Eureka, BFI and Signal One are currently the fairest prices for new titles, though Arrow and Artificial Eye are not far behind (and their titles always drop in price a few months after release). StudioCanal can't honestly be selling as well as the above labels considering they're asking so much for their standard releases. HMV and Fopp occasionally have price-drops on their back catalogue if you're lucky, but it seems to be sporadic.

That Godard set is frustrating - I already have two of those titles in separate editions (Breathless and Pierrot le Fou) and was looking to get Le Mepris (though maybe I won't have to now if I get this set). £50 is an okay price for all 5, but they could've added a couple more, added more extras etc. A wasted opportunity, like you say.

And yeah, Fopp are pretty good and I used to go to the Covent Garden one if I was in central London and looking to kill some time. I've been to the Bristol one a few times in the past year and they have less and less good prices to be honest - I have to dig around to find anything I really would want at a sensible price. I was trying to find some Second Run DVD titles and they were all £10+, and most of the Blu-ray's I went in there to find were not in stock. So their prices are often good, but they should stock more copies of stuff...and run their campaigns for longer (e.g. I remember I once went in to buy a load of Soda titles in a campaign they had just started, and they all had gone back up in price the day I arrived).

Anyway, yeah - Bande a parte for £10.99. I'm happy with that. A shame they ditched the Tarantino extra but there's plenty more instead! A bigger shame that they couldn't seem to create anything new for the Farewell My Concubine release (very rare for BFI to do that).

I don't get that when my Xtravision store closed last month in my town they should have sold off the rest of their stock in the shop for a low price but instead it was packed up and sent back to the warehouse.

To be sold in HMV stores, surely? I was working at HMV when HMV Ireland folded and we got in loads of Irish stock - had to peel off all the ratings stickers and price stickers and change them to pound sterling ones! Was laborious to say the least, and everyone was trying to avoid the task!

Okay, so not a Blu-ray deal, but the complete Columbo: 1-10 box set is £22.40 right now at Amazon.

Just to stay on topic though, the Star Trek 1-10 Stardate Collection Blu-ray set is £24.10 at Amazon!

Is that just XVMarketplace? I can't find those deals on Xtra-Vision's site? The marketplace BDs will be ex-rental copies for the most part.

Yes, both are XVMarketplace.

All discs will be ex-rental but I've faired well in the past. All have played perfectly and some were in like-new condition.
