This is for movie enthusiasts, look around at all the healthy discussion about all the great movies that came out this year, if you believe there was only one good movie that came out in 2018, this isn't the place for you.

But good for you and your principled stand for a movie that will likely finish around 10th, a place that your single point will likely have no bearing on.

Well you clearly don't because my intention certainlty wasn't to come as some snoby *******. Like i said i didn't see many films from last year and the rest of the films i saw were 6/10 and under. Why the **** would i nominate any of those films.

I don't even think Annihilation as some masterpiece. It's flawed film but it has great atmosphere and that's why i wanted to give it point.

Jesus Christ. You really didn't even read my post. You just looked at the film i mentioned and assumed the wrong things and threw a fit.

EDIT: Had to go back and bold that one part so that i don't have to read further *****ing.

I didn't take your post as snobbish at all, fwiw.
But you still aren't allowed to give one point only.

If you can't think of extra 5 films worth mentioning, then don't worry, the minimum amount of submission is 20 films, the extra 5 are for people who might want them.

1) Like mentioned above, Minimum amount of films listed is 20 and Maximum is 25. If you can't list 20 movies you've seen this year, all the films on your list will only receive 1 point each towards the total so be sure to reach that 20 milestone.

I'm off to bed.

I say next year we should also vote for our picks for worst films, and they lose points accordingly. #1 worst film -25pts, #2 -19pts,#3 -18pts etc.

That way the more divisive films won't be called "Blu-Ray Community's Top 25" when in fact it's just a few members who are very passionate about a film and vote it high, while most others don't consider them top films. The votes against it will offset them and we get a true consensus.

It's that disproportionate overrating that I think ruins many lists. Some obscure movie that only like 7 people on the entire site have seen makes the top 10 or 20 on a "community top 20" list just because those 7 people voted it in their top 3, when most people on the site haven't seen it so it certainly cant be called the "community's" picks.

When has this happened, exactly? Movies like Infinity War are always near the top of enough lists that things like Burning or The Death of Stalin don't have a prayer of placing very high

No offense, but screw the "worst of" nonsense. It's a vote, everybody's vote counts equally (unless you rank under 20 movies, for exactly the same reason we're talking about here). There's enough negativity around these forums as is. I come to this thread to see people's passion for the things they enjoy.

Besides, it's all for fun anyway. What difference does it make if obscure movies place? The idea is to expose yourself to new films.

Not so much in the annual lists, but it happens a lot in the genre lists and stuff that we do.

Yeah, giving a down-vote gives ammo for the trolls. Sure, not having a down-vote has its downfalls (e.g. offensive movies can keep higher visibility), but it does make for a healthier community. If several people love a certain movie enough to rank it as their #1, then that deserves some extra recognition, which is the whole point of awarding 25 points to the top spot instead of 20. The critical discussion can be right here or following Werepuppy's post of the film's ranking. We can battle out our unpopular or divisive opinions there.

One example is mother! being my #1 movie of 2017. That film has some disturbing imagery and probably pissed off or offended a lot of Christians. But for me, it was a tougher-watch-but-greater-reward kind of film (e.g. Amour), and I didn't see it as anti-religion whatsoever, which I discussed on various threads last year.

Annihilation I fell on the other side of. My experience of the rich aspects of the story and atmosphere was totally ruined by the countless cringeworthy moments and poor decisions made by characters throughout the film. My rule of thumb is I can only cringe so much during a movie before admitting that it's bad. Cheers to everyone who loves the film though, as it certainly does some things very well. I plan to watch it again on Prime sometime just to see if I can enjoy it more.

That's my favourite part of those lists. All the predictable choices will still grab the top spots, but then there might be a couple movies that are under most peoples' radars, but which a couple members are really passionate about, and that can inspire me to discover the reason for that passion, and potentially discover some hidden gem of a movie...

Anyways, I didn't notice the under 20 = 1 point each rule either – I also don't watch many current-year movies, so have never participated in these polls. I haven't seen anywhere close to 20 2018 movies, much less 20 2018 movies that I actually really like (which is the real precondition to doing a proper list here), but I'll happily give my 1 point to the following movies:

1. Mandy
2. 1987: When the Day Comes
3. Oh Lucy!
4. Isle of Dogs
5. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
6. Forgotten

edit: After reading the rules again I replaced Killing (I guess that's ineligible for reason of only having been released at festivals) with Oh Lucy (which did get its limited release in 2018). I wonder, by creative interpretation of the rules, would a decades-old foreign film that never had a theatrical or video release in the U.S., but was released "straight to DVD"/blu-ray in 2018 be eligible? I thought about that a couple years ago when I was lurking the 2016 lists – I would've totally put Danger Pays (1962), had I done a list. I guess none of this matters since none of the films I'm talking about will get votes anyway. >.<
edit edit: Added 1987. According to imdb it was released in Buena Park & Los Angeles California on the 29th of December 2017, but USA-wide on January 12, so I'm not sure if it counts. Again, not that it matters if my 1-point vote is the only vote it gets...

I stand by everything I said, I read your post just fine.

I've seen 53 2018 releases and only truly disliked about four or five.

I simply cannot understand coming to a thread meant to celebrate the best movies of the year to cast a ballot for a single movie, regardless of if you believe it's a masterpiece or just the only better than okay movie you saw all year.
