So I finished the attachments to the shoulder pieces of EVA foam. As usual, you have to remember to take your time, cause if you don’t accidents happen.
Yeah, right after I set the hot glue and attached it to one of the pieces, while pressing them together I realized I had pressed the wrong side of the piece onto the EVA foam.  F1F128F0-B153-4B2A-A7A9-2C1CD5D8F6F3.jpg Well it was too late for that piece. I was able to quickly fabricate another nylon snapped attachment piece and installed it on the other shoulder piece. DA5AD9CB-E0C4-4700-8C2E-3E4D5947D52D.jpg 85A95EE9-4F38-4DCC-950C-622B633FE16F.jpg It all worked out and after cooling, I did the snap attachment test onto the shirt and everything snapped, fit as it should. Also, the pieces successfully detached with no damage to either the pieces or the shirt. 6A58CD02-638F-42DD-8234-791E09B47FC4.jpg 401D30A0-FF5A-468B-AC4B-2CC0D353ACA9.jpg I’ve got to set up the snaps for the briefs which the top section of the torso attaches to as this will keep the shirt from pulling out/away from the briefs. The golden power belt covers where the dirt/brief attachment occurs. It’s almost time to work on the body decorations.

I had to bring home The Lady Sif from my office to help me with the airbrushing portion of my outfit. I wonder what role the great Lady Sif shall play in creating the garb of the Black Son of Odin?

A7D6044B-E379-434B-B6B4-1E2F325E6661.jpg They reside in my office at work (as do countless other collectibles) each set includes a large fine photo cup, a smaller holographic cup and the two big characters include a statue figure cup and a straw with mini figure attached to it. Only Thor and the Destroyer had a four piece. The straw is in the big cup. |

So last night and today I worked on creating the templates for the body armor that will be used for airbrushing. It was a lot longer and more involved than I thought it would be.
You have to constantly think and rethink; you only get one shot at it. If it’s wrong, there potentially goes the shirt or briefs. Also, the hopes that it properly lines up so that it’s not covered by the power belt that fits u def the bottom of the torso pieces and the top of the brief pieces. First I did hand drawn concepts for measuring and refinement purposes. I used that shirt for a visual test shirt. I taped it and created a working visual representation of torso placement. I did have to make changes, but they were minor on both the top and bottom sections. You can see those changes scribbled out. Well I’m finished with the top. I was reminded how difficult it is to airbrush onto synthetic materials. I have probably no less than 12 layers of first sprayed opaque white then a large portion of opaque Sky Blue.
Shirt readied on the shirt board and placed on the easel. 36DB7172-18C1-48AE-97C6-09C787821CEA.jpg Template applied with spray adhesive, white base layer is sprayed, then first couple of layers of Sky Blue are sprayed. F2D57C1A-39EF-428B-8830-4677FEEDB186.jpg Now more layers of Sky Blue are sprayed. I realized I didn’t put enough spray adhesive onto the template back (or I didn’t attach it soon enough) it began to lift. So I had to use my fingers best as I could to prevent too much over spray. EF68F35C-95B8-496F-BFE0-5AF849C57F7C.jpg I removed the template to find the expected overspray. A16279B5-F475-44CA-A075-1FBAC2F36110.jpg I did the best I could to carefully cover up (or at best mute) the overspray by spraying opaque Black over the overspray. This is the finished result. 1F215936-BC0D-46D8-8535-6F16DAC632C9.jpg I lightly heat set it with a heat gun. I’ll let it air dry and heat it again tomorrow. My main concern now is that it stays pliable and doesn’t crack. I really wanted to have this done by “ silk screening, but, they won’t do it unless by volume and they won’t use items you give them. You have to buy the garment from them. I couldn’t find anyone who had the size or style of shirt or briefs I needed. Oh well. Next I’ll spray the briefs and apply some of the things I learned to that. The briefs are a whole different beast. Can’t for them on a shirt board so I’ll have to make a temporary form out of cardboard to properly fit/stretch the briefs as needed so the template can be applied. |

So with my worst fears realized, the airbrushed work on the synthetic shirt began splintering and cracking; well, ain’t that some shit!
 So, lesson learned. I searched for a high cotton shirt and briefs (no fly type ) with the athletic cut and size I needed for my outfit. I found them on Amazon 90% cotton! I also needed more opaque Sky Blue paint, you guessed it, Amazon. I took off Wednesday so I could finish off all my left over work for the Con. I had one shot to get this right. Made a new stencil for the shirt, attached it with spray adhesive and masked off the shirt. Did the same for the briefs. 00A9F1F4-3AE8-459C-B85E-DB6AF473093A.jpg Put down several light layers of white followed by white/sky blue followed by solids sky blue; All opaques so good coverage. Thank you Createx airbrush paints. I was airbrushing both top and bottom pieces at the same time, layering each with the same colors. It was a great process. 4F97EE02-3BF2-418C-A5F6-11FDED54FE6E.jpg Dried everything and began to remove the protective layers and the stenciling. Both the top and briefs came out great. Thanks to their high cotton content, the paint absorbed onto/into the fabrics as it should have. CEBA371F-E711-4C20-ABC0-99D97F6ABFFA.jpg With good cotton items I was able to high heat set everything at about 325 degrees making it permanent and washable. I decided to try them on with the outfits blue pants, golden power belt and shoulder pieces. I think it all came out very good. We made it to NY and we are checked into our room and had good Ol McDonalds for dinner.
Gonna make some minor alterations to the outfit that I wasn’t able to do at home as my Daughter wasn’t available to help me with and it takes two people for the nature of it. Hope it turns out good. And it was the F Line Train that took us to our hotel. 39346FDB-064A-4A3F-B4F5-5E0F2A8E8AD8.jpg And here is the happy Father/Daughter team all smiles in the NYC subway! 25BCFBE9-2E19-408E-989E-222761CB75EE.jpg Also, I upgraded and got a new wig with really good hair and my Daughter is gonna show me how to prep it by shampooing it, then the conditioner and we will dry it, and brush it out and it rests on a mannequin head I got for it. I spent well over $100 for it and that’s a lot for cosplay, so, it’s an investment and I’m gonna take care of it.  Tomorrow morning it’ll be get up and hit the gym quickie time, face painting time, cape and wig time, hand painting time, boot strapping hammer and sword prepping time. Then, it’s GO TIME!

So we woke up and I went straight to the gym to get my swoll-on before getting showered and dressed.
Got back and woke up my Daughter so we could begin changing our identities. As part of her MCU Gamora, my daughter began painting herself green. She did face, neck and hands. 1FCE1292-CB2F-4B6D-A220-99711D53942E.jpg So I told you about me and my $ wig and my Daughter who has naturally long hair told me not to worry that she was gonna work her magic on my wig to make it into what you see below which I can only describe with three words FAB-U-LUS! That joint was silky smooth to the touch. Feathered out to resemble that look worthy of a God! my many thanks to Geekcaster (he's a damn genius and a great guy, glad we met him) for allowing asking/allowing us to participate in some of his many NYCC 2019 videos. the "hammer throw clip" and the "hammer returning clip", those were my idea built upon by the Geekcaster! we had a blast working those things out and we did them all inside of just like 5 minutes or so. some great spontanious creativity from us all!

we also found time to make it to the following panels:
on Hulu, Marvels Runaways on Prime, Jack Ryan both panels had all of the important and top "stars" of the series to include all of the actual Marvel Runaways "Runaways" (with two of the creative/writing force joining them) and for Jack Ryan, John Krasinski, Noomi Rapace and Michael Kelly. each show, included premiering the first full episode of the yet to be released season followed by stage time with the casts to hear their take on the upcoming season as well as the past one. each also ended with a Q & A session with each respective cast. both were enjoyable, nice to see the casts in person and hear from them. I can't wait to see Noomi in JR S2. that woman is   and she looks like she could kick your ass  in the same breath!
