That was a terrible film and by far the weakest Shyamalan film (I've never seen Lady in the Water and don't intend to).

I found it more enjoyable than most of his recent films personally.

I saw it early showing in theaters back in the day and loved it.

Sure, the criticisms about his self casting were earned (but it's a minor part all things considered). Overall, it's a great film about grief, loss, and finding healing. People were just expecting "THE BIG TWIST" and it's not that kind of film.

The happening, on the other hand...a film with zero happening.

...but having said that, I watched a youtube video recently (mind blown territory) I encourage people to give a watch. It says if you place Signs, The Happening, and After Earth as a trilogy, it elevates the quality of all three films, and there are connected elements in all of them.

It's The Happening: Shalyman's Greatest twist (may have misspelled his name).

When I have more time, I plan on watching all three back to back to see if it holds up.

Watched on Peacock last night…very enjoyable. Fantastic cast and a premise that mainly kept me on the edge of my seat.

The Village rules. So does Old, so does Knock at the Cabin. I’m so glad M Night is back to making mid-budget, high concept thrillers that are not sequels and established populist IP.

I’ve always felt the village was underrated. Great performances, in particular William hurt. Amazing score by James Newton Howard. I watch it every so often and can overlook some of its story flaws and be amazed by it every time. It’s because of the performances and atmosphere that keeps me engaged. Hopefully it will get a proper release someday-the last physical release was dvd.

I'm with you - I can't imagine it's popular opinion that "Old" > "The Village". Maybe.

I guess I am susceptible to Shyamalan's schtick, though. I was loving "Old".... until I didn't. I didn't dislike it, though, but my opinion started out pretty high and ended at a shoulder shrug.
