Germany 'The English Patient' announced for November 20th

Here's the Amazon.de page:

http://www.amazon.de/englische-Patie...5507662&sr=1-1

It's described as a Special Edition, so it sounds as if there will be some extras.

I just hope the German subtitles won't be forced when the English language audio track is played.

DVDBeaver comparison (Miramax R1 DVD/Miramax R1 CE DVD/Alliance Canadian R "A" BD/Kinowelt German R "B" BD)

Looks good. Bodes well for a U.S. disc.

As this has been released now, could someone please confirm whether the German subtitles are forced or optional when the English language track is played?

Thanks in anticipation!

According to DVDBeaver, the German subtitles are removable.

Default The English Patient

I don't see a thread for this German version which has gotten some good reviews.
wonder how many people realize this good 1080p version--
compared to the 1080i Canadian version--has been out for a while now.
Being a Miramax title in the US we all know it won't be coming anytime soon.
It is unfortunately region B locked, but for those with region free players it's great that this is now available in 1080p.

I have this on order, and look forward to finally seeing this best picture winning film for the very first time.

Yep, and I can say I'm pretty happy with this release! It's pretty much English friendly edition (menu options are in German, but easy to navigate). There are only two audio tracks for the main feature: English and German dub (both DTS-HDMA 5.1) with only German subtitles (optional, not forced). Pretty much all of the extras are in English with German subtitles, with a couple of documentaries only in German. As for the PQ, although not pristine (which is I believe rather due to the film stock than the transfer itself as the film has never looked great in any of its dvd incarnations), it is a good improvement over any of its previous dvd editions. If you are a true fan of the film, I highly recommend this German edition as I don't believe The English Patient will ever look better than this. It's packed in an "odd", yet beautifully designed digipack. Region B locked. (Will post case pics once I figure out how )

Thank you much for the review! Now all we need are caps of the Canadian vs this German edition. I have read the Canadian looks quite nice for 1080I so I am curious to see how much better this edition looks. Very good news on the quality of this release!

the canadian release is definitely inferior from all reports.
I have this release, and it looks very nice.
