Default "Johnny Mnemonic" 2-discs Mediabook

A 3-discs German Mediabook edition in the works from Turbine Medien including the longer Japanese cut (if only it could be in HD) and a laminated 35mm frame, more release date and details to be announced and confirmed...

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...n-blu-ray-disc

It will feature a new Atmos 7.1 audio track:

Germany will release literally everything in a 3-disc mediabook these days.

The Japanese cut is significantly better - the US theatrical cut is unwatchable to me due to the cheap music it was rescored with it, it brings the whole thing down. The JP cut seems to be the original version of the film and is a decent cyberpunk flick.

Been wanting to get a copy of this for awhile. Will strongly consider this release.

The new score is from Brad Fiedel (from THE TERMINATOR 1 & 2) fame but here his attempts don't quite get there (and he had very little time to work on it), unlike the darker, industrial score by Mychael Danna which is closer to the first rejected soundtrack from indie band Black Rain...

The film world-premiered in Japan first and although the Japanese version isn't the "director's cut" it's the closest to it and you can grasp a better a feel of the film Robert Longo and William Gibson wanted to make.

The two things that make this movie watchable for me are the Brad Fiedel score and the at the time cool special effects. Maybe Ice-T as well. Fun movie.

Oh boy.. this movie. My friends and I call this JOHNNY MORONIC, and it earns it (though I will say the Japanese cut is better.. but that's like finding a better cut of SOLDIER... it's still going to be SOLDIER).

But I do have to thank this movie for giving me such low expectations when going to see THE MATRIX for the first time... that was a good movie going experience.

That looks nice, if it includes the JP cut with English subtitles for the Japanese dialogue I'll buy it.

It's not listed for pre-order anywhere yet.

By the way, what's the overall experience with Tribune editions (I never heard of them) ?

They seem to be doing real work instead of pseudo labels just repackaging to sell expensive Mediabooks...

Oh man I didn't even think about the subtitle issue. I hope they do have English ones on the disc. If I'm not mistaken I think most German releases do not include English subtitles. That would be a real bummer because I really want to pick this up.

I asked them on Facebook:

Hi Simon,
thank you for your interest in our product. The Japanese cut will be in standard definition and yes, the Japanese dialogue will have English subtitles.

Kind regards
Kristin from Turbine

From what I understand it will also include an open matte SD version of the international cut which I don't see the point of...
