How would you qualify the M80s vs the M60s?

I'm pretty satisfied with the M60s but I might eventually upgrade...

i moved the furniture around in my house and voiding out my inwall surounds. so now i have the wife convinced that we need new surounds . i have been hearing alot of talk in other theads about guys wanting advice on upgrades and so i was considering the qs8's. i need some honest opinions because i have fallen in love with the def tech bpvx surounds, but at $700 each i will need to save for a while longer where as i can get the qs8's in about a month or two.

The QS8 are really good surround speakers, they provide excellent surround envelopment and are non intrusive.

One thing to consider, you will (most certainly) need to get one of the brackets (full metal ceiling bracket or full metal ceiling bracket) or the FMS QS stands. You can't put these surrounds on other stands or shelves since they have a woofer installed at the bottom of the speaker. On my part I use the ceiling brackets for my QS8s and they work really well (you can see the final installation in my gallery).

I cannot compare to the Def Tech BPVX surrounds since I have never heard them. Based on the specifications alone the Def Tech have a deeper bass extension (based on the frequency response 31 Hz – 30 kHz although they don't mention at what level the range is valid, this means that the bass extension might be considerably lower than the rest). Bass however is not the most important thing for surrounds in movies. Bass below a certain level is non directional and the subwoofer will cover better these frequencies.

That being said on a price/quality perspective, I would go with the QS8s.

You have to decide for yourself. Most of these speaker mounts require that you screw them to the back of the speaker. If you have pre-drilled holes on the back of the speakers, almost all of them should work.

The QS8s come with a metal T Bracket to install them against a wall (check out the manual for an illustration).

If that doesn't fit your need. I think that the bracket you suggested might work. There is a single mounting bolt in the center of the speaker's back (you can see it in the manual and in this picture and in the illustration below). You could place that bolt in the top hole of the bracket or build a small adapter to use the two bolt.

Hope this helps

They are looking good!

Did you order "factory seconds"?

So far what's your impression on them?

The "factory seconds" are 10% off

Here's a description of what factory seconds are:
Axiom Audio products go through a very extensive and demanding Quality Control process. Even the slightest blemish or element that may not even be noticable to the eye can cause the product to be unacceptable as a first. While our manufacturing facilities and processes are of the highest quality and reliability...the fact is that a few of our speakers just don't make it through our rigorous quality / appearance acceptance criteria.

This creates an incredible value opportunity for customers who are not stuck on absolute cosmetic perfection.

The products offered here may have a slight blemish, but they are absolutely PERFECT in every other aspect of their sound performance ---- they have absolutely no operational problems or sound performance issues, and come with the same 30-day Money-Back Guarantee and 5-Year Warranty on all our products.
Mine are factory seconds and I haven't been able to find any slight blemish (as many people who ordered these factory seconds).

Anyway glad you like them so far!

Anybody uses outriggers with their Axiom tower speakers (M60s or M80s)?

I want to get outriggers for the following reasons:
- Speaker stability (a while ago someone almost knocked one over);
- Using the spikes without the hassle of adjusting them from under the speaker (I'll be using pucks under the spikes to prevent damaging the hardwood floor);
- They look nice

So that being said, any suggestions? I'm looking at the ones from Soundocity, Galen Carol, Mi-Stand (those look a little lacking in the overall finish)...

Edit: After looking at the Audioholics review I ordered a pair. I'll post some pics when I get them.

Update (Aug. 6): The outriggers are B/O and will probably ship in 1.5 week.
