It’s always a great day here at the @BarkerCast when we have EXCLUSIVE NEWS to pass on to our listeners and readers who stick with us for their Clive Barker news and discussion.

Today we have very EXCITING NEWS! The CABAL CUT of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed will be available soon on Blu-Ray, and using the best quality footage available!!!

Yes, you heard us right— That CABAL CUT you saw at a screening back in 2012/2013 around the world, hosted by Russell Cherrington, or Russell and Mark Miller, along with some of the cast members like Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, Nicko Vince or Simon Bamford, is FINALLY going to be available on a VERY limited Blu-Ray disc release, just signed off by Morgan Creek and rebuilt in-house at Seraphim, using the best quality footage available. Remember the graininess and the terrible muddy quality of the VHS workprints? That’s been cleared out a LOT, although for some segments they still used it; but there’s no other choice for those segments that weren’t found in the warehouse boxes for the Shout! Factory edition.

12 minutes of VHS footage remain on a 145 minute Cabal Cut. Stuff you’ve never seen anywhere else, folks.

Now for the fun part: Not only will this release feature a commentary track by RUSSELL CHERRINGTON and JIMMI JOHNSON, original editors of the several versions of the CABAL CUT that toured the world and rallied the fans to demand for the release of the Director’s Cut, but RYAN DANHAUSER and JOSE LEITAO from the @BARKERCAST is producing a commentary track of our own for this release! So stay tuned for that!

It will also feature a VIDEO INTRODUCTION by MARK MILLER, VP of Seraphim as well as a LIMITED POSTCARD SET and an ENAMEL BADGE of Dr. Decker’s Rorschach-style art by Clive Barker!

The cover will feature the TIM WHITE artwork that graced the cover of the Fontana/Collins book CLIVE BARKER’S NIGHTBREED: THE MAKING OF THE FILM, as you can see in this post’s header. Here’s a picture of the DECKER pin:

The kicker? This Blu-Ray will be REGION FREE. So everyone out there, around the world that wants to get a copy of the CABAL CUT will finally be able to watch it regardless of what Region they’re living in. You asked for it, and THEY LISTENED!

So I'm confused... their using less vhs quality stuff but the 12 minutes have never been seen before or other stuff in the 145 minute run time hasn't been seen? I really liked the DC but I'm not sure I'm dropping coin on another release just for 12 minutes of vhs quality... I dunno, still cool their doing it.

It's probably for the best that I sit this one out. Had I love the movie (bought the Limited Edition), I'm willing to break my bank for this Cabal cut, but I'm not sure if 12 extra minutes would help mitigate my personal qualms towards the film.

Great for the hardcore fans, though.

Excited and annoyed at the same time. I hope this isn't a new cut every damn two years sorta situation where they found HD versions of 30 seconds more footage and now have a commentary track from the guy who brought donuts to the set.

I can't imagine Scream Factory is stoked about this either.

Yeah, Russell Cherrington was called the restoration director of the Cabal cut so hearing how he edited it by using the shooting script is the appropriate commentary track.

This isn't his preferred cut of the film. No need for a commentary track from him on this. Even though I think he will provide something for the release.

'The Cabal Cut' was more geared towards the fans hence why were're getting commentaries from the fans that helped get the Director's Cut released.

I'm glad Russell Cherrington is finally getting some props. His efforts went pretty much ignored during the release of the Director's Cut.

I'm dismayed that I knew what movie this was talking about from the thread title, even though I'm not a fan. I spend too much time here.

Yesssss. I don't care about price, I adore Barker and Nightbreed. It will be so nice to have a cut that reincorporates the scenes between Lori, Rachel & Babette that didn't make the director's cut; those were amongst my favorite in the Cabal Cut.

Everything I've purchased from Barker's store has been of superb quality, so this package should be great.

I don't think they're going to take issue with this. Everything about this suggests it's a very limited 'niche' product, more of a curiosity for devoted fans. The definitive release will still be the original Blu-ray from Scream. From what I've heard the 'Cabal Cut' was everything that was shot and was basically an overlong bloated mess that Clive trimmed and refined for the DC.

I do think this should have been on the 3-disc limited version though. Don't know why it wasn't.

Honestly, does it really matter? I finally got around to watching my copy of the directors cut a few weeks ago, got to say that it really wasn't worth ALL the years of waiting & hype surrounding the release. Don't get me wrong, still a very good flick, but nothing too memorable added to it. Just my humble opinion of course.
