Nothing official although I think 'something' is widely expected soon.

Someone posted in the US thread that ProSieben will be airing HD remastered episodes during January, indicating that the remastering, at least of season 1 must be done.

But that does sadly not mean a blu ray is on the way. Alias has been showing in HD for 2-3 years now and still no Blu Ray release of that show sadly also

Indeed. The West Wing and Twin Peaks are other examples where the HD remasters have been done for years without a BD release.

Along with many ITV dramas like Morse, Sherlock Holmes, Poirot etc
However some of those have appeared outside the UK in US, Spain and France.

With X-Files I can see a BD release as it probably has the biggest cult following after Star Trek so Fox know that BDs will sell.

Why do people never put question marks in their thread titles? I saw this and thought that The X-Files have had been announced...

The X Files series are being shown on TV in HD in New Zealand.

HD picture quality is very good but not quite up to the standard of new shows. HD Picture quality is a marked improvement over the DVD's.

Fingers crossed then that a blu ray release for this series may not be too far away.

Perfect timing as Digitalbits reported yesterday the BD release is dependent on the current talks by Fox on bringing back the show to TV for a limited run like with 24 last year are successful.

Yep, if you read the posts, they reckon it's more likely they'll wait and see what happens with this as they'd have more publicity if they did choose to release the discs.

Really? Makes me wonder about what type of tool they have making decisions. This is a massively popular series that has many requesting a blu Ray set. Yet so much tripe is released with less then half the fan base, but they still need to wait and know if this series would sell?? Unbelievable.

I suppose the problem is the number of people who would pay £40 a season for X-Files on BD which is probably a ball park number Fox will want is limited. They will expect similar day 1 pricing to Star Trek TNG but I think the fan base for X-Files is smaller.

A lot of people will hold out for a full boxset at around £100 level for I think it was 9 seasons which is more disks for less money than TNG boxset goes for, as wasn't that around £130 or so when released late last year for 7 seasons.

It is one of these cases where the studio does not get the cash it wants, especially as many people are happy with the continue to be sold DVD complete boxset for around £40 or potentially buying HD itunes downloads for £20 to £30 a season without the risk of producing loads of BD disks.

I doubt the fanbase for X Files is smaller than TNG. During the height of its popularity The X Files regularly got viewing figures of 20m in the US and its highest rated episode was 30m. TNG never broke 20m in viewers and it regularly got between 10-15m.

The first X-Files movie also outgrossed all of the TNG movies worldwide.

Irrelevant. Different studios. Paramount milk that Trek cow until it's tits bleed.

Wasn't The X-Files on a network? TNG was a syndicated show. Network shows usually had higher numbers.

If you read around these and other US forums Fox's policies around releasing TV series aren't very good, not even releasing new series, let along old ones. I'll be happy if it happens but I'm not guessing when that's likely.
