Missing a certain badass probably has something to do with it

If they do similar plotting of Yamato 2 / Star Blazers 2, then you'll be blown away. Trust me.

There is is confrontation scene in the original Star Blazers 2 that is still my favourite in all of anime.

2199 is considered worse than the 1st season. It was the same way with older series at well.

For those that are interested Dark Horse Comics announced they will be doing an English translation of the original Yamato 2199 manga series starting July 31st. For those who were not aware Yamato 2199 also came out as an illustrated manga but from what I have heard the manga series was more in-depth and covered other areas that were not featured in the animated series. There were 8 volumes released in Japan and I don't believe they completed the entire 2199 series (but I have heard the creators are going to finish it).

Dark Horse will be releasing two of the manga books per volume, the first volume will be 344 pages. If it does well we should see an English adaptation of 2202. There are other new stories planned after 2202 I was reading about earlier I believe with regards to an animated series but also in manga form too.

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...-manga/.142683

I was going to pick up the Japanese volumes last year just for the art but hesitated hoping an English translation would come out, and now that it is, I am glad I waited.

French release of Yamato 2199 is (finally) out... well, part 1 over 2. Possibly the most complete set in terms of packaging & physical content to be released. Reviews should come soon enough.

Box 1 (of 2) contains:
Quote:
Episodes 1-13 on 2 BD, 2 DVD, kept in a digipak.
A4 storage box
5 A4 booklets nearing 350 pages of content:
- Booklet "Earth" (68 p)
- Booklet "Solar System" (56 p)
- Booklet "Earth Fleet" (72 p)
- Booklet "Yamato - Technical Manual Vol.1" (72 p)
- Booklet "Yamato - Crew" (76 p)
One A3 (?) poster
The second one is planned and should be released by the end of the year, hopefully. The distributor teased that it will have even more content. The not-final packaging preview shows 6 booklets, so possibly about 400 pages.

Distributor site.

Of the two - 2199 vs 2201, I really liked some of the ideas and themes that 2201 brought to the table and the ending was an interesting take on both Yamato II and Arrivederci Yamato. And I'm really curious where they go with Desslok next, especially since 2205 is looking to be a mashup of New Journey and Be Forever.

However I think I prefer 2199 more. They're both quality, but the story was stronger in 2199.

Either way, gimmie more. I'll take it all.

So we've got a teaser for Yamato 2205:

"While this is a remake of 'The New Voyage,' there are some things like the appearance of Yamato characters from other titles that did not appear in the previous film. There are a number of elements that are the pillars of the story, and I think we've added a lot of new surprises while incorporating the highlights of the old movie version, so please look forward to it."

Can never get enough of the new Star Blazers. I still need to re-watch 2199 since picking up the Blu-ray box set from Funimation when it came out with the English dubs, and then watch 2202 with the English dubs as well. My guess is we should (hopefully) get 2205 next year sometime.

Okay, these are cool. Tim Eldridge managed to get 95% of the original scripts to Star Blazers (known as Star Force at that stage of the production), and has been posting them for all to see:

Looks great as always. I can't wait until I finally get an OLED television, pop in the Funimation Blu-ray sets for 2199 and 2202 and watch them all, and then this new series, but first I will need to watch all my original DVD series from the old days.

Imagine if the scripts were turned into a fully-dramatized audio adaptation or Star Blazers was reconstituted from the remastered Japanese source!

It really depends on if Funi has the rights to 2205 or not. If they still have the license, I would bet not.

Looks like they updated the official 2205 page with new characters and ship data.

I am glad I pre-ordered the 2199 and 2202 series from Funimation while they had them available, I went with the limited edition ones when they first went up, seems like they are sold out on some and low stock on the others. I was pretty shocked when I saw what the limited editions fetch on the secondary market like eBay.
