If it's not dead, it's certainly on life support.
I'm only counting 5 US Blu-ray 3D releases this year.
  • The Grinch
  • Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
  • Aquaman
  • Jivaro
  • The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

Jar Jar Stinks from February of 2019:

I had a Panasonic 3D Plasma set that died about a year ago, which was replaced with a non-3D 4K LG. Since I only have about 15 3D titles, I can't justify buying a projector just for those. Does anyone think these titles will work with future glasses-free 3D TVs? Or will that be a whole different technology?

So if I may be so bold, why do you come here for the first time in a year and tell all the people who love 3D with a passion, that 3D is on life support and then give some trumped up numbers for 2019, intimating that there will be less 3D blu-rays for 2019 than 2018, when the year is not even half over and you do not even take the time to do a correct list?

Yeah, Bro, a thread started over 7 years ago, and with over 3000 comments, attesting to the death of 3D.

I very simply made the observation that there have only been six 3D releases this year. As a format, 3D is either a) thriving b) stagnant or c) declining. You make the call. But there's no reason for you to get angry with me for providing unbiased facts.

And a fair amount coming soon from the Silver Age. That’s not to mention the likes of 3D Rarities 2. The golden oldies just keep coming also. Did you include those in your estimates? No?

Doing good, Joe, how are you? And more importantly how is your lovely wife?

Weather was perfect here today. Got out with the big dog and wife for a long walk.

Thinking about a Thor 3D marathon. What you watching this evening?

But yeah, I do feel the hater's pain. They just can't understand why we love 3D. They just aren't capable of grasping 3D, so something must be wrong with US.

Hi Bill

Mary Jane is home again and is walking much better. Thanks for the kind thoughts.
we watched the Mets last night so behind a bit in 3D. Three straight days of rain, finally the sunshine is out.

I just wish people would allow others to feel good about something rather than trying to make themselves feel superior with those comments.

Mind you, don't mind an opinion regarding the industry and it's future availability. Ten years ago I was taking a stand that 3D would have a niche following but never achieve, at least over the next half decade, the following that was being hyped. Argued it would not be the next big consumer product everyone wanted to get Saw it not as an issue of 3D but of consumer economics ,- people, like myself, were not going to dump their recent HD sets purchased over the past few years for 3D.

But when my set was dying, 3D was the feature I looked for.

The industry just didn't keep it going as a readily available feature. Why, who knows? Yet I do feel it will catch on more as a feature if the industry only gives it time. It will be an option and should be marketed that way. I think they are doing a miservice to us and others. It's not like they need to make separate equipment for it.

Hi jar jar,

We understand that. And have discussed it a lot between us as a group. It's maybe that we don't aappreciate not the need to discuss the point, upsetting that it is, but rather the firmness and insensitivity behind making such a point. Don't you think that would upset many of us who love the format so much and don't want to see it fade away more than it already has?

So there is every reason for us to get angry. We are upset enough with the industry frowning on home theater 3D and don't need others providing facts trying to prove a point. On a personal level, as one human being to another, one should not hit another when one is down. It is as simple as that.

We have our hopes for the continued health as a niche following. But we are neither stupid or naeve. We just don't need to be taunted making it worse for us.

I have an interest in 3D. However, there clearly isn't industry support for it in North America. 3D TVs are no longer manufactured and the number of titles is shrinking each year. Facts are facts. This has nothing to do with hitting someone when they are down. My posts are appropriate and consistent with the thread title. That doesn't make me a hater, just a realist.

BTW, I don't appreciate getting attacked for providing the most basic of information. This isn't your private thread. If you want to create a 3D lovers group or whatever, you can do it here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/group.php?do=create

Seems that many are happy with those facts though. Instead we should ask why they came to be, and what can be done to improve matters. There’s a laundry list of reasons why 3D didn’t take off absolutely huge, but at the same time it isn’t like nobody bought into it. Dropping support for it altogether is the worst thing the electronics industry has ever done- not only has doing that greatly reduced 3D’s chances of catching on, but it’s leaving us with movies in our collections that we can’t watch anymore! My friend already had his TV die and get replaced with a crappy 2D one, now all the 3D discs he has are useless! It shouldn’t be too much to ask to keep 3D at least on the most expensive top of the line models, especially when they still include other features which are useless to some.

Not yet available for pre-order, but confirmed by multiple sources, including Fox's own website. Release date July 23.
