Default Let Me Start This Over

My previous comments were incorrect because I was watching Edge of Tomorrow thru the Vudu app on my DVD player which does not support Dolby Vision, so everything I said is moot. Let me do a redo here....

When watching this movie via the Vudu app on my TV, which supports Dolby Vision, right away during the opening scene between Cage and the General, the map on the video screen behind the General's desk has much more clarity and color than the BD, and even though the movie is purposely done in olive drab and what we would all think as doom and gloom, what other colors are used, like the yellow banding around the flag patch on Sgt Farell's uniform, or the yellow used for the explosions during the first troop transport when it blows up, are both more vivid with clarity.

No expert here, and it muddies the water a bit because I am such a fan of Edge of Tomorrow, but in my opinion, if you have a setup that plays Dolby Vision, it is worth it to get the Vudu UHD digital copy of this movie.

And, there were no lip sync issues using the Vudu app on my TV so those issues I stated earlier was from using the app on my dvd player.

Well well well, here’s a re-release I found at Walmart for $5 (and it came with $5 movie money for Godzilla KotM so it’s essentially free) and it looks like they’ve adopted the international marketing, dropping that garbage LIVE. DIE. REPEAT. title in the US and just calling it Edge of Tomorrow. Hope that sticks if/when the UHD drops.

The 3D version is so good I'm not sure I'd be interested in a 4K.

It was shot on 35MM film instead of digital to give it a war footage look. The BD version looks amazing. A 4K native digital scan of the original negative would make sense IMO.

I specifically got the steelbook because it had the actual title featured more prominently and the "Live. Die. Repeat." tagline is at the bottom where it belongs... plus it has the suits and not a bunch of movie stills lol Paramount made the right choice for Interstellar, maybe WB will do the same for this.

This is available on iTunes in 4k DV. It doesn't look much different than the blu-ray and I would wager that it is an SDR picture in a HDR container which seems to be a trend with Warner titles that aren't available on physical 4k yet.

Yep, Edge on iTunes in 4K/HDR certainly doesn't look like much.

One of my favorite movies ever and yes those fake HDR digital releases don't do much for me either. This needs a proper release involving the director to oversee a proper HDR grading.

Why are you calling it fake?
What proof you have that it wasn't overseen by director or DP?
All other movies look exactly the same on UHD and streaming in terms of HDR / Dolby Vision, but suddenly this one is special. This one is FAKE!

Oh gimme a break.

It looks very nice in DV, but it's grading is very subtle and natural, that's all. It reminds me of most MCU movies on UHD.

Chill. Just because you like it doesn't mean everyone else should.
And digital HDR is often fake. I can force my tv to HDR mode too even when watching a dvd. Doesn't make it any more real either.

Mind boggling how this doesn’t have a physical release, it’s a fairly popular movie that would sell.

I just re-watched it the other day. BD holds up nicely but yeah, a UHD would be great.

Great artwork, I might actually prefer that over the Steelbook.

Really? How do you do that? I hate the color on dvds. Especially skin tones. I just can't stomach some dvds anymore, but I ain't got much of a choice.

I remember with my last TV I tried to watch a DVD & while it upscaled it, the picture was godawful & looked pan & scan.

Damn that 5 dollar wal mart art looks so much better than the crap on the original blu ray, the artwork was atrocious. I had the steelbook but sold it off, hopefully we see a 4k steelbook in the near future.

Really? I'd say the MCU HDR grades have been pretty aggressive. But that may have more to do with how bland their SDR grades are.

It's the freaking skin tones for me. They become too bright and off color. I try to get the tones right, but at that point I'd rather be doing other things (like watch the movie) than adjust all day long.
