Ask to check the discs, they are often damaged by being stored in plastic sleeves which leave tiny pits on the disc. They can polish the disc for you.
CEX also will buy a disc in any condition and sell it at the same price whether it's like new or whether it's been scratched. They literally do not care about the condition anything is in.

They care when they can knock a few quid off their buy price. I sold my complete UK Dreamcast collection to them and they were very finicky about inspecting each disc. I guess when they are paying over 200 quid cash for a game they really up their game.

Really wish I had a time machine. I'd have bought every copy of Cannon Spike and Rez when HMV was selling them off for a few quid

Same with me selling consoles to them

"this 20 year old box is slightly faded we can't pay you full price"

I don't trade with them anymore

I sent a Special Edition Enterprise time capsule box set to them once, they returned it saying condition wasn't good enough.

The copy they sent back wasn't the one I sent them.....it even had a CEX price sticker on....they clearly took a shite one off the shelf

Cheeky bastards

I've been monitoring CEX prices on certain items and noticed a gradual increase in some prices, but today I've noticed that a lot of Blu Ray series sets have gone up by a minimum of £2.

Has anyone else noticed recently price hikes and do you know why?

Thought I had a bargain at £8. Turns out it's worth nothing now...

Great job, CeX.

Yep on my cex "saved items" list, most things have gone up. Though there are two high priced items on my list that have dropped a few quid. For rare OOP stuff they're still priced better than anything on ebay or amazon marketplace though.

Great job, CeX.

I wish they could have a comment on the more expensive items about the condition. They give me a hard time about every little imperfection of things i trade in yet charge the same price for every blu ray no matter the condition.

Id love to buy the Shohei Imamura Masterpiece Collection off them but he will probably have a big sticker on his face.

Great job, CeX.
I hate their stickers so much and those round ones are so pointless. Nearly bought a copy of the ltd. ed. On The Run, as it was pretty cheap, but on closer inspection I could see they'd clearly ripped off an old price label causing damage to the box in the process then stuck a new one on. Back on the shelf it went.

Genuine question: were you planning to sell it on for a profit?

After postage and fees that'd be maybe, a tenner profit, maximum? I'm not that hard up mate!

Cool. I was just curious as you mentioned it being worth nothing due to sticker damage.

Ordered the Gentlemen 4K with a voucher as it was a decent price.
It arrived with a ripped case and reprinted cover...

The sticker gunk may actually wipe off with a bit of Iso Propryl Alcohol. Failing that chuck the cardboard box in the bin, I assume the plastic case inside is still fine.

I recently tried to buy a UHD that the CEX website said was in stock, I went to the store and they had the disc but they could not find the case. They said that somebody probably nicked the case (who steals an empty case?!!!). They said if i came back in a week they would reprint the artwork and put it in a different case. I didn't go back.

CEX Norwich had someone trade in their entire collection of 800 Blu-rays yesterday - on their website they list 1700 BDs, hundreds more than any other location in the country. It took me a while to realise what was happening until I saw huge piles either being added to the shelves or taken away by a few customers, and looking rather fuller than they usually are. When I thought I was done, I saw full shelves next to the counter ready to be put out, struggling to look through everything before they closed at 6. One of the staff at the counter helpfully pointed out that while I assumed you can only search up titles on the website, if you search for Blu-ray, 4K or DVD you can see all the stock of everything in the country, and then filter by price range and location. So this morning, hungover from Eurovision, I had a look through their database!

It’s not necessarily a goldmine as there are some cheap generic titles still in there, and a lot I already own, however there’s a lot of Arrow, BFI, Eureka, Criterion, New Wave, Artificial Eye, StudioCanal, Ghibli, Anime Ltd, TV shows in there - most have slips/booklets (though some aren’t the LEs like Six Gothic Tales and Keaton short films) and kept in good condition, also some steelbooks, some about market value others far below it. Columbia Noir vol 3 is only £35! Though was a bit disappointed, found Of Flesh and Blood listed on the website for £35, but when I got to the counter it was out of stock!

So I picked up:

Death in Venice - £8
Ghost Stories for Christmas - £15
Naked with booklet - £10
La haine with slip/booklet - £18
Troll with slip/booklet - £12
Revenge with slip/booklet - £8
My Blueberry Nights - £2
The White Ribbon, Winter Sleep, Loving Vincent - £3

Plus a few more common titles like American Beauty, This is England, Fences for a couple of quid each.

One thing I did find a bit cheeky is I picked up Yi Yi for £8 last night, changed my mind, but then when I returned it they only offer in store credit and not cash!

Just to be clear, that isn't sticker gunk, it's ripped the cover art. I would keep the Blu-ray but the whole point of buying it was for the box set with the booklet.

Thanks for the reminder to pick up My Blueberry Nights.

I'm also based in Norwich so I would take a look but I typically know what Blu-rays I ever want to buy before I get them. I don't usually pick one up because I liked the film once and "may as well."
