Well, I've started this new thing where I hit the gym twice a day (although I might cut a day out of the week for a complete rest day). Here's my routine.

4:30 - wake up
5:00 - take two capsules of Lipo-6x
5:30 - arrive at gym, stretch, do light resistence training to get heart pumping.
6:00 - begin cardio, treadmill for 30 mins. and bike for 10-15. Cooldown with basketball. Hit the shower.
7:00 - go to work
8:00 - eat breakfast with 2 green tea pills
10:30 - take two capsules of Lipo-6x
11:30 - lunch - multivitamin, B12, fish oil, 2 green tea pills
3:30 - get off work, hit the gym. Spend an hour or so doing intense strength training, cooldown with 15 mins of cardio. Hit the shower.

The strength training will be every other day for me, and I only work out parts of my body at a time. Yesterday I did 3-4 sets of 10 reps of lateral bench press, incline bench press, crunches, tricep exercises.. (researching bodybuilding.com helps) Today I feel sore.

Been drinking more water and it seems to be helping A LOT. I'm still at 245 but I don't think that'll change with the weight training... my questions are 1) should I be drinking a protein shake post-workout? I read on the container that people looking to lose weight probably shouldn't have one. But I think it'd help with recovery and build.. 2) Am I going to plateau really fast going intense like this early on in the game? I gained 50 lbs in 6 months.. and I heard it's easy to lose newly acquired fat so perhaps not?
That's a great schedule, and you should be pretty fit if you stick with a regimen like that. I'm a big fan of isolating body parts with weight training, so I'm right there with you on that! Oh and don't be afraid to go above 10 reps in your training. In my experience, 10 reps is kind of that break-even point where you're both building muscle/strength/size and toning, but it's not particularly good for either one. I either like to go with fewer reps or more...if that makes sense. Everyone responds differently to weight training, though, so take that with a grain of salt. It's free advice anyway.

I pretty much agree with that, as you will likely add muscle and therefore weight if you're doing a workout like this and then adding a protein shake to it. If I remember correctly from an earlier post, you're eating good foods that should take care of your protein needs, especially at this stage in your fitness when you're looking to lose weight. I'm not sure what you're adding to your shake, but if I could make a vague suggestion, it would be to use half of the recommended protein -- if you still go with the protein shake. They do help with recovery, but they also help build. I'm not sure "building" per se is what you want to do at this point...but the body does need protein, so make sure you're eating. Perhaps go with something a little lighter on the calories than a shake; try a PowerBar (or something similar).

As for the rest of my workout process, I do the cardio/ps3 thing 6 days a week for 35-45 minutes. I also workout with bowflex and free weights 3 times a week for about 40 minutes at a click. when I do weights and cardio, I do my Weights in the morning before I go to work and do the cardio within half an hour of coming home from work. I take Saturdays off to recover.

My diet. Breakfast consists of a glass of apple or orange juice, a bowl of cereal or an egg white omelet with diced tomatoes and a small pinch of shredded cheddar.

Lunch ususally involves turkey or chicken sandwich with a slice of swiss or american on whole wheat with a small amount of lite mayo and mustard, one small bag (vending machine size) of baked lays, and ONE regular soda. I used to drink 3 or 4 a day and now just have one 12 ounce can for lunch to kill the
craving.

for snack in between lunch and dinner I usually have a 12 oz can of V8 or a piece of fruit.

for dinner it's no carbs at all. I have a turkey burger without the bun, condiments etc or some chicken breast, or if I really want a treat I'll get some buffalo wings. I do this usually every two weeks on a friday or saturday night. And I drink nothing but water the whole day other than my one lunchtime soda.

I cheat sometimes when I go out with friends and especially when i'm on vacation but always keep the portions normal and don't cheat more than once a week. it's all about portion control and excercise for me.

I'm 6 ft tall started out at 310 lbs about 3 years ago when I started this life change and lost 70 lbs in that first year. since then I have lost an additional 20 pounds and been able to maintain my weight with the exception of when I go on vacation when I usually gain 5 -10 lbs over 2 weeks at the annual beach vacation, but always lose it within a month of coming back. good luck to everyone trying!
This is also a great workout/diet plan. Congrats on dropping all that weight. Ninety pounds of weight lost is 30% of the bodyweight where you started! That's huge!

Thanks.

It might look like I'm a pill hound or something, but honest I'm not. I take green tea because I recognize the health benefits associated with it (and I still enjoy a real cup at home), and I take the Lipo-6x for faster fat burn and general health overall. It's also a pick-me-up. My bottle is running low and I'm thinking of experimenting with Hydroxycut Hardcore.

The more I research nutrition and fat burning, the more I think I undereat, even though I snack before I go to bed and cheat on the weekends. I heard that it's good for you to eat your body weight x 12. Which for me is 2940. I don't know if I am consuming that much... because even though my wife cooks a healthy dinner most of the time, I'm not sure of the calories contained. I got to get with her on that and we need to figure it out. I'm not up to counting calories like a Nazi, but I do want to make sure I'm around 2,000 and cutting it by 500 every three months or so. I usually eat leftovers (chicken, potato, a vegetable) for breakfast and lunch, or I'll eat a HealthyChoice frozen meal and maybe one of those SlimFast bars for a snack (those are 110 calories). This week I decided to totally cut out cheese and milk.

I usually put 1 scoop into a 12 oz. cup of water for my protein shake post-workout.. sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It's whenever I feel that my food intake of the day isn't enough to help fuel my muscles for recovery.

yeah...you may gain a substantial amount back when your body regulates(because, it will)...don't let it put a damper in your mood.

I'm 6'0 and a muscular build..I'm not a skinny person by any means...but, I can regulate my weight at around 205...I have dropped down to 180 by losing weight and started working out and raised back up to 195. I prefer 195-205 with being able to go out and have fun...and, not worry about drinking. I look too gaunt when I fall into the 180 area.

most of the pill issue's are fouled results anyways...they don't hurt you....even ephedra wasn't as bad as the media and the FDA made it out to be...the baseball player that died while taking it was also on a high steroid regime, but, you never hear that side of it. They just happened to be the scapegoat who got taken down.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, I'm below that macho 6' threshold, so at 5'10", I need to make sure I'm not too heavy. I was at 214 three weeks ago, and am now about 204, thanks to eating more healthful foods. Given the size of my legs from years of soccer and football, I would probably look best at around 185-190, which is my goal weight. We'll see....

I see. Well that's probably a pretty lean protein shake then. I had this image of a shake with bananas and stuff with fruit juice as the liquid. The way you're doing it, it's probably OK.

About the daily calorie intake droppage, be careful. If you drop it by 500 every month pretty soon you'll be down to no calories! No but seriously, for a large man who's active, you could easily get away with 2500 calories per day, especially if you maintain this activity level.

A nice pick-me-up beverage that I love for working out is this energy drink called Ripped Force. It's pretty intense, though, so I only drink about 1/3 of the (20-oz) bottle per workout...so one bottle lasts me three workouts. That drink, especially if you're just starting it and haven't used fat-burning agents in the past or recently, will get you pretty jazzed and you'll cut fat like crazy.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll start drinking those then because I think, calorically (if that's even a word), I can afford it.

Just gotta stop cheating on weekends.

I see you own a Wii - how are the activity levels on those games such as boxing or tennis? I hear people get pretty beat playing them.. but who knows. I'd play Dance Dance Revolution (I once lost around 10-15 lbs. by playing DDR with no dieting or anything) but that's apartment living.

Really? I'm approximately the same height and go 180 at my absolute max, but it's a pretty "full" 180. This pic is me at about 175 or maybe a pound or two less. No gauntness, and I've got pretty big bones so I can support quite a bit more weight.

Yeah I am 6' too and right now is the heaviest I've ever been, at 180. I've got a nice little gut going. When I'm ripped I'm about 170.

When you're fit, the Wii games don't really challenge you in that way, but they're definitely better than playing a video game while sitting down.

The Ripped Force drinks are about 100 calories per bottle. They're very minimal as far as calories go because it's a drink designed to help cut weight/fat. Just be careful if you're drinking them late and are sensitive to caffeine, because if you aren't used to it, you'll never be able to fall asleep. They used to have Ephedra back in the day, but the FDA pulled that product. I think jkwest mentioned that earlier.

If you want inspiration, go here. It's a "fat to fit" thread with pictures of peoples' hard work. Makes me want to jump on a treadmill or a bench press just looking at it!

I'm absolutely too gaunt at that weight..

I'm one of those "do not fall into the BMI range".

I'm thick, but, not fat....I got tree trunks for legs..I barely can touch the net...srsly..

I have more of a boxer build than a basketball player build.

Not me! I'm a buzz-aholic. I do know people who also feel the same way you do, though. Keep in mind that I definitely don't overdo it either; that's why I drink 1/3 of a serving per workout.

I'm also pretty thick, but I guess my weight gets distributed in such a way that I can not look emaciated at my current weight. I've definitely been called skinny, but I hate being called that because I am definitely not skinny (when I think of the word "skinny" I think of unhealthy -- and I'm definitely healthy). I believe I have the world's shortest torso, so perhaps all my weight is in my legs as well. I've got a pretty meaty rump and quads from all the biking and running I do. I also played water polo growing up (through college), so I've definitely got mass up in that area. I think I read somewhere that 70% of one's overall bodyweight can be attributed to legs.

Caffeine, in my opinion, gives you the same effect that music does - enables you to go further than you would without it.
