Arrow 3D Blu-rays only available in Region A or B countries (region locked and region free)

Unfortunately, all new unmodded blu-ray players, consoles etc are locked to only play discs coded for one region and that's not likely to change. 4K discs are all region free but when it comes to DVDs and blu-rays you are stuck having to deal with region locking. Technically there's no such thing as a "region free" blu-ray, those are in fact coded for all regions (ABC) rather than none but, as you are free to play them anywhere, "region free" is a fair way to describe them. Below you will find lists of:

- REGION A LOCKED 3D blu rays only available in Region A countries (Post #2)
- REGION FREE 3D blu rays only available in Region A countries (Post #3)

- REGION B LOCKED 3D blu rays only available in Region B countries (Post #4)
- REGION FREE 3D blu rays only available in Region B countries (Post #5)

- 3D blu rays that are autoconversions (Post #6)

It seems that nobody really bothers with Region C locked discs even in Region C countries. In practice, China is generally treated as Region A due to its ownership of Hong Kong and everywhere else is treated as Region B, but discs from those countries (India being a notable one) tend to be region free.

Many 3D blu rays get worldwide releases but there are an awful lot of 3D blu rays exclusively available in Region B countries and there's some real classics locked to Region A that look like they will never come out in Region B so really, if you're a lover of 3D, you have no option but to get yourself equipment that enables you to watch Region A and B discs.

I know some of the titles listed are also available elsewhere, but not with English subtitles or audio - all the titles on these lists are English-friendly unless otherwise specified. There's a separate thread listing 3D blu rays that aren't English-friendly across all regions. Where such a release has been erroneously described as being English-friendly or only has the English audio on a 2D disc I may list it here, but there will always be a note.

In this forum, I've put [Region Free] in the thread title of every movie that's completely region free worldwide.

If it says [Region Locked] then it's locked in both regions, so naturally [Region A Locked] or [Region B Locked] means you can only get it locked to that specific region.

If it says [Region Locked / Free] then that means that some releases are locked but there is or was a region free release somewhere so look it up. I use rewind in addition to searching this site and forum and reading reviews. You can't always rely on Amazon listings as those are often wrong.

Please also note that ALL Disney / Marvel / Pixar 3D blu-rays are REGION FREE with only one exception - Ratatouille, which is locked to Region B. Universal, Paramount, Sony and Warner Brothers also generally don't region lock anything, so you can import their major titles with confidence. 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, Kino, Shout Factory, Entertainment In Video and others do tend to lock their releases, so watch out for those, but if you just look the film up here you shouldn't have to ask if it's region free because it will say in the thread title.

My native Blu ray region is Region B so I've had to buy a Region A player to be able to play all these interesting (and not so interesting) Region A locked 3D blu ray releases available with English audio and/or subtitles only in Region A countries. These are all English-friendly titles I have from Region A countries that are in fact region free. I have watched them all on my Region B equipment, so you can feel free to import them whatever region you're in:

3-D Rarities (USA) - can be ordered direct from Flicker Alley
The Arti: The Adventure Begins (Taiwan) - conversion, no mention of 3D on the packaging
Asterisk and Obelix God Save Britannia (Brazil) - includes original French audio and English subtitles
Baby Blues (Hong Kong) - includes English subtitles
Billy Lynn's Halftime Walk (USA)
Blood of Ohma (USA) - NOT a 3D blu ray, this comes on a BD-R in SBS format
Bloody Tease & Blood Sisters Grindhouse Double Feature (USA)
The Bubble (USA)
Camp Blood Grindhouse Double Feature (USA)
CZ12 aka Chinese Zodiac (Hong Kong) - original undubbed full length version - the shortened version is available in Germany but isn't fully English-friendly and may be region locked
Dragonfly Squadron (USA)
Dr Who Dark Water / Death In Heaven (USA) - conversion
Due West: Our Sex Journey (Hong Kong) - includes English subtitles
Evil Unleashed: The Mummy & Zombie Chronicles Grindhouse Double Feature (USA)
Eyes Of The Werewolf & Hunting Season Grindhouse Double Feature (USA)
The Finest Hours (India, Japan, Brazil)
The Four II (Hong Kong) - conversion, includes English subtitles
The Four III (Hong Kong) - conversion, includes English subtitles
Ghosts Of The Abyss (USA)
Gnome Alone (Brazil)
Gun Fury (USA) - on some players the audio goes out of sync at the point where the intermission card was removed
Harlock: Space Pirate (USA) - original and international cuts both in 3D - the UK release is Region B locked and only includes the international cut in 3D
Iceman (Hong Hong) - includes Cantonese and Mandarin audio options with English subtitles but no English dub - if you want that, get the UK version
Lion Of Judah (USA)
The Little Rascals 3D (USA) - five colourised and converted shorts
The Mad Magician (USA) - includes two The Three Stooges shorts (Pardon My Backfire and Spooks) in 3D
Man In The Dark (USA)
March Of The Wooden Soldiers aka Babes In Toyland (USA) - colourised and converted
Mars Needs Moms (USA)
The Mask (USA) - only partly in 3D, still well worth it
Miss Sadie Thompson (USA)
The Monkey King (Taiwan) - only region free version - for Region A there's Hong Kong and for Region B there's Australia, all include English subtitles
The Monkey King: Uproar In Heaven (China) - conversion, includes English subtitles
Mr Go (Hong Kong) - includes English subtitles
Naked Ambition (Hong Kong) - includes English subtitles
Natali (Hong Kong) - includes English subtitles
Painted Skin 2 The Resurrection (Hong Kong) - the German version has no English subtitles
The Pee-Wee: The Winter That Changed My Life (Canada) - conversion, includes English subtitles
Planes: Fire And Rescue (India, Mexico)
Porckchop 3D (USA) - NOT a 3D blu ray, this comes on a BD-R in SBS format
Ralph Breaks The Internet (Japan) - cover and disc art have region A markings but all discs are region free
Ratchet & Clank (Brazil) - cover states Region A but this is region free, there is a Region B Italian version with English audio but some of the on-screen text is still in Italian so the Brazilian release is the only one that's 100% English-friendly - avoid the French version as that has horrible forced subtitles
Sadako (USA) - includes English subtitles
September Storm (USA)
Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy (Hong Kong) - get the Director's Cut
Shock Labyrinth (USA) - you're better off watching this on a passive 4K setup
The Son Of Bigfoot aka Bigfoot Junior (Brazil) - this is the only English-friendly 3D version of this film
Stand By Me Doraemon (Thailand) - if you want a Region A version, get the Hong Kong re-release with Japanese audio - the first Hong Kong release does have English subtitles but the audio is Chinese
Steve: Death Collector (USA) - NOT a 3D blu ray, this comes on a BD-R in SBS format
The Stewardesses (USA) - includes Experiments In Love (a half hour 3D short)
Tai Chi Zero (Hong Kong) - conversion
Tai Chi Hero (Hong Kong) - conversion
The Three Stooges 3D (USA) - this only contains four colourised and converted shorts, none of which are the genuine 3D shorts the Three Stooges made (Pardon My Backfire and Spooks) - those two can be found as extras on The Mad Magician
Tiny Giants (USA) - BBC documentary, not a full length movie - the 'making of' featurette on the disc is also in 3D
Tormented (USA) - the original Japanese title for this one is Rabbit Horror, as with Shock Labyrinth (which this is tangentially connected to) you're better off watching this on a passive 4K setup
War Of The Worlds Goliath (USA) - animation, conversion
Wolf Warrior (Hong Kong) - the title on the box is Wolf Warriors - the 2D version was released separately, so avoid that one
Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal (Hong Kong) - includes English subtitles

These are the autoconversions I have, with ones I don't have (but others have contributed info on) in bold. There's an insane amount of them in Germany. These are basically conversions that don't appear to have had any human involvement - some have an effect much like the 2D to 3D conversion features on some TVs, others are basically a flat 2D image pushed back into the screen, some just have the bottom forward with the top two-thirds pushed back. Needless to say, if a film is on this list, the 3D is going to be very bad. Some are censored too so that's another reason you may well regret your purchase! If I know a film is region free or locked I'll make a note. It's all a bit Wild West in Germany so note that bonus films do vary, as indeed do titles! Again, these are all English-friendly unless otherwise specified:

2035: Forbidden Dimensions (2013) aka The Forbidden Dimensions / German title: Mad Jack - Travelling Forbidden Dimensions. Cut, around 1 min 50 secs missing! FSK18 / Running time 1:24:27.
2:22
The 25th Reich
2-Headed Shark Attack
3-Headed Shark Attack
6 Guns (2010) - Should be Unrated version. FSK16 / Running time 1:35:36
666: The Beast (2007) / German title: Der Antichrist - FSK 18 / Running time 1:28:35
A Better Tomorrow (remake) - also released in the UK, region B locked
Age of Dinosaurs (2013) - FSK16 / Running time 1:28:23
Airplane vs Volcano (disc includes Airline Disaster as a bonus film)
Alien Predator
Alien Trespass
All Quiet On The Western Front
American Poltergeist 2 (2013) aka The Poltergeist of Borley Forest aka You Will Love me - FSK18 / Running time 1:43:08. Disc includes: American Poltergeist (2015) - FSK18 / Running time 1:19:41
Android Cop
Atlantic Rim (2013) aka Attack from Beneath / German title: Attack from the Atlantic Rim - FSK16 / Running time 1:25:28
Attila (2013) - FSK18 / Running time: 1:25:38. Disc includes: Dracula Reborn (2012) - FSK18 / Running time 1:29:16
Bates Haunting, The (2012) aka The Haunting of Bates Motel - Cut, 27 seconds missing. FSK18 / Running time 1:17:07. Disc includes: Cannibal (2010) / German title Menschenfresserin). French movie, not English friendly! Cut, around 3 minutes missing. FSK18 / Running time 1:44:01
Battledogs
Bear
Blood Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys (2014) - FSK18 / Running time 1:26:51. Disc includes: P51 Dragon Fighter (2014)
Blood Shot - I watched this, I love the film but the 3D is barely there
Bloodrayne - theatrical cut only. region free
Bloodrayne 2: Deliverance - region free
Bloodrayne The Third Reich- region free
Boost (2016) - FSK18 / Running time 1:34:47
Brutal
Cabin Fever (original and remake)
Cabin Fever 2
Cabin Fever 3
Cape Fear
Cargo
Charade

Zombie World War aka Zombie 108 - this is a Taiwan movie but the German 3D release has English subtitles

Gert Krumbacher's reviews of German 3D releases are also very useful and far more comprehensive: https://www.amazon.de/gp/profile/amz..._=cm_cr_dp_pdp

There are also bootlegged autoconversions of The Matrix, Star Wars, King Kong and various other big Hollywood films out there - not only are you wasting your money if you buy these, you're also funding organised crime. Sellers from Russia and Sri Lanka are the main ones watch out for - avoid avoid avoid these like the plague!

As my Region A player has an issue with the disc loading slot, I don't want to use it to randomly test out hundreds of discs so I will be more reliant on those in Region A to confirm if any of the titles in the lists above are really region free or have been released in Region A somewhere.

For Americans relying on these lists, please remember that Region A is not just America - there are quite a few titles you can get in other Region A countries like Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong; Outback, A Liar's Autobiography, Ratchet & Clank, The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2, Terminator 2, Valerian, Need For Speed and Robinson Crusoe for example, so that's why you won't see those in the lists above. Then there's India, which in theory is Region C but 3D releases there tend to be region free so that's another option.

It will take me a while to list everything I have/know as I don't want to list anything incorrectly, but if anyone posts anything in this thread I will update the list(s) in the posts above with that as a priority. Needless to say, if there's anything missing or wrong, just let me know.

German version is an edited 76 min Rated FSK-18 version.

German version is an edited 76 min Rated FSK-18 version.
I've amended the listing to include the running times.

Yes, there is no longer cut than the R rated version (rated 18 in the UK). That version only got 2D and anaglyph 3D releases outside of Germany. There is a slightly shorter 2D cut on the UK DVD I have but I'm not sure if that made it to the US blu ray, and of course the FSK18 version is the shortest of all - watch that and you'll think your player is skipping...

Yes, Ratatouille is often erroneously listed as Region Free but it is most definitely Region B locked.

My concern is whether it has English subtitles, rare for a German release, but not unprecedented... if it isn't English friendly it isn't going on the list.

I'm not sure where to put this, but I got suckered by an autoconversion of "Rashomon" that is/was for sale on Yesasia - talk about losing the will to live...

I'm intrigued. Is the 3D that bad? Nevertheless, no reason to commit seppuku. At least you chose a great film.

There are some equally worthless Bond autoconversions out there too, I will add all these to the autoconversions list.

Hi 13th,

Ah, and to think the one who mistook the photo to be Louis Jordan was the one who gave you the final push to finally start putting this list together!

I think in these stupid times anything that encourages people to go region free and buy more 3D blu rays is a good thing.

thanks for doing this! going to be increasingly reliant on imports, and i find the sites i buy from in the UK often have incorrect region code data.

as an aside, this is a crappy way to find out that one of my favorite movies, Ratatouille, actually had a 3D release. bummer.

Hi Woodpost,

Again watched Ratatouille after recording it onto DVD-R about three years ago before I was into 3D. Though it is now ten years old, said to my wife I sensed it was something that was released in 3D. Sure enough, found it was and available in Europe on blu ray but only in region B.

I know that Ghoul is labeled as being Region B but it's actually Region Free.

No problem playing it on my Region A player.

Hi 13th,

Am sure I speak for many thanking you for all the hard work you're putting into to get this information out for us. What's most appreciative is taking the time to confirm for us what is actually region B and not all region for many titles that mislabel the information.

Thanks again "bloke" from your "matey" across the pond.
