From the way it sounds, the worst part is going to be the flooding in NC/SC. They are expecting something like 24 inches of rainfall.

Yea, they are saying the storm surge will be the main problem here in Charleston... It already floods here just from normal rainfall. I probably should have left but I'm riding out the storm. My house is all boarded up and I've got sandbags lined up outside. The Tropical Storm force weather will begin Friday around 11pm and later Saturday the Hurricane level weather will start.

We are expecting up to 14inches of rain up to 8 feet of storm surge.

Not much happened here. The day was similar to a regular cloudy day with a few storms here and there. I think I could count 4 weak feeder bands at the most. No power loss or anything. Pretty much as expected since the track kept it completely away from Miami-Dade. The media just likes to hype it up at times a lot more, even when we are clearly away from a major threat.

Our beaches are getting hammered. Condos, hotels are all flooded, roads washed away from the surge. Unreal! Thousands have no power. Fortunately for zone. We still have power. Several trees are down about 30 yards away in my back yard, but we're watching the the closest trees that are closest to our house that's swaying back and forth every time that gusts of winds hit us. We're 7 miles away from the coast (non evacuation zone) and it's very worrisome when the wind is howling. So far so good for us.

Very sad that a lot of people opted to stay at home at their beach home rather than evacuating. I hope they make it

Only 40-50 MPH winds here in Virginia Beach, but a lot of flooding. Still have power but the internet is out so no streaming. Mobile phone still working.

I live in South Carolina at the coast and haven't had power for almost 19 hours now. There's over 300,000 people in the area that still don't. Luckily my neighborhood didn't flood much, but there's many roads that are closed. There's only 1 tree in my yard and it's still standing. No damage to the house, so as soon as the power comes back on everything will be back to normal for me.

I'm one of the few with power. I never even lost power, but most of the area did and is still without power. Lots of roads closed due to flooding. No severe damage that I've heard of, just trees falling across lines. I lived in SC during Hugo. That was incredible. Just sold a house in Charleston, SC. Seeing posts from Facebook friends of the area. It's bad there, but not like Hugo thankfully.

One word regarding Hurricane Matthew.....

LUCKY

If the eye came 20-30 miles closer, a lot of inland areas would be experiencing 100mph winds. I think my area had winds from 40-60 mph with gusts to about 70mph. The real bad thing about it was the wind was non stop from 2pm Friday all the way till about midnight Saturday! Scary moments every time you hear the wind. Could of been a lot worse if Matthew was closer to the beaches, which I don't want to think about. Some places were hit very hard towards the coast while others had some minor damage. Some still don't have power, and some don't have homes to return to. Spent all day Saturday cleaning up and helping my neighbors. I'm very grateful that it was just tree debris that we're cleaning up. I just feel bad for others that weren't so fortunate after the storm. This storm will have a long lasting effect for a lot of us for a long time.

We're alive, all my family, and friends made it!
