Default a pair of M8s or a single LFM-1 Plus?

My son is hoping to expand his system (a pair of MartinLogan Motion 15 and my old JBL PB10) to include a second sub ... I've been reading up on this scenario alot this past week and understand that ideally, the subs should match.

A PB10 auction on eBay ended up at $186.00, almost double what I had hoped to pay for a 10 or 12 yr. old sub.

Also, I read a reply by Big Daddy that unmatched subs, though not ideal, could, with enough tweaking, work out.

That being said, Outlaw subs, along with SVS, Rythmik, and HSU seem to be some great sub manufacturers.

Outlaw owners: would a pair of M8s be as good as an LMF-1 Plus paired with his JBL?

His new apartment's living room is about 15' x 25'

He is mostly interested in a second sub for music purposes ... eventually, I'd like to see him have matching subs ... would the M8s be good enough for the
long run, or go with the LMF-1 and save up for another one in a year or so.

Thanks!

I would buy the plus. It should be plenty for him. You could always try to get the plus abd jbl to play together. If he thinks he needs another plus you could save up but one will have plenty of output. The second one is mainly for smoothing out nulls. It won't give much more output with two.

+1^^^^. And it might eliminate the thought of, " should I have gotten the bigger sub" later on. You could just call Outlaw and see what they say.
