Default Warner to continue supporting both formats

Just in case anyone was wondering, Warner still feel very strongly that supporting both formats is the best solution for the consumer and will continue to do so until it is very apparent that one side has one, which likely means monthly and weekly sales of 90:10

Maybe they just haven't got the check from MS yet?

No, they will not be bribed.

Warner has been the most vocal about letting the consumer decide and they're also making the most money.

True. I thought that if any other studio would have gone HD DVD exclusive, it would have been Warner because they already have so many HD DVD exclusives. This Paramount/DreamWorks news made my head spin.

To show my Blu-ray Support, I've been buying all my WB movies straight from WB online store.

I think Warner knows that in the long run they can make more money by supporting both sides in the long run. Look at 300...that has been a cash cow for them in the theaters and in Home Entertainment. The good thing for us is that the Blu ray support in purchases has been at least twice as high as HD DVD. I will continue to buy Blu only and if I want a movie that is HD DVD exclusive I will just buy the DVD version. I truly believe this is how we all should handle this.

I purchased 3 blu's last night: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=14086

As I said in the Fox thread, I think Paramount needed the money due to title availability. There are enough titles coming out in the next year for Paramount to sit things out. They are sell-outs for sure, but they now get money they would not have made in software sales.

So what about 300? It's sold ~200k so far on Blu-ray. Okay, let's go out on a stretch and say 300k sold on Blu-ray through today. Even then they'd have make $500 profit per disc sold to equal the $150 million paid to Paramount. That is an obscene amount of money for any studio not to accept.

But that's Microsoft, whenever it can't compete against, it purchases.

I like your style there. That can still hurt hd dvd if their standard sales are there and hd non existent.

No, just that Warner had invested all their money in TotalHD disks a year ago as the "cure" for the War--
Which, until yesterday, turned out to be the "D'ohh!" of the year, as it soon looked like the HD Disease might be eradicated before the "cure" could even come out in early '08.

Warner may be breathing a sigh of relief at what they think is HD's "reprieve" (and therefore necessitating TotalHD sales), but given that they're still supporting Blu, they should be breathing two sighs of relief...

If Warner needs "90:10" to dump HD DVD then I'd say they're pretty much worthless/irrelevant in this thing.

An old Bulgarian maxim: "Brother, if you can't buy something with money...you can certainly buy it with a lot of money".

This was a very sad day for Blu indeed!
