I was 10 years old in 1999, so obviously it was aimed at my demographic lol (I'm 33 now).

I was 6 in 1999, but I never checked out Digimon at the time as it was overshadowed by Pokémon, making it easy to see Digimon as a rip-off. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the Pokémon anime to begin with, so just assumed that Digimon had to be worse. When I did watch the Japanese version of Digimon Adventure as a teenager/adult (as well as 02 back when it was on Crunchyroll) I liked it quite a bit, but have no nostalgic attachment to the dub as a result.

I was a teen when Digimon came out. I think I watched it and enjoyed it so I wouldn't be opposed to getting it. Oh and the fact that it is good helps too.

I definitely crack jokes about these titles with friends but I think I understand why they happen. They often start as light novels online where they are sitting in a sea of titles with nothing else to distinguish them but the title. So what you do is give it a title that describes the content a bit and/or is funny to help it stand out and draw clicks.
