Very true, hopefully 4.44 sets it all right but at the moment the series teetering on the edge here.

That they have decided to title it Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 (not a joke) does not make me too hopeful.

Yeah, the theme song is mid-'90s, not '80s. Please don't give the '80s crap for stuff that wasn't actually produced during that decade.

I always had mixed feelings on the theme song. It's maybe not awful in itself, but it does feel very out of place considering what the show's actually like. But that seems to be a Japanese thing, I've seen several serious and tonally pretty dark films and shows that play upbeat pop songs, sappy ballads, etc. over the opening or end credits.

I think it ties in well with how the show presents itself: in the beginning you're given a specific premise and are told a number of facts. Over time, by the end of the series, you learn that none of it is true and that the show is really about something else entirely.

Besides, THIS is 80s:

Default Neon Genesis Evangelion series Blu Ray?

Fair points all around and it is not like I hate the theme song. Actually I think it fits the show perfectly, I had just kinda forgotten how J-Pop it is.

I doubt the UK will get a Blu release of the series. At least not Manga UK, they'd probably think it not economically viable to release it against potential sales and the cost of production. Maybe Anime Ltd will pick it up in a couple of years.

I love dated, cheesy, ridiculous anisongs from all eras, though I have a special fondness for the soul and enthusiasm in some of the '70s songs, this one in particular always picks me up:

Dated?

Cheesy?

Ridiculous?

I think most of this material is genuinely great.

I suppose one could look at it that way, though I'm not sure that was intentional.

I'd never heard that song, which isn't strange as I haven't seen anything Gundam (I know, I know) yet. I don't think it's that bad though, maybe not something I'd listen to regularly but it doesn't stand out as especially cheesy and bad compared to other anime intro theme songs.

Who doesn't?! One of my all time favorites!

Up there with 1/2 or one half (Kenshin), and the English versions of Freckles (kenshin) and Smile Bomb (yuyu hakusho).
