Looks like CDJapan is my only recourse for buying this movie, but it's been awhile since I've ordered from them.

Do they pack things safely, or do I need to some special kind of order to get a collector's edition bluray un-crushed from them?

I've been ordering some train BDs from them lately and they pack pretty well. Even for simple amaray cases, they'll have everything in bubble-wrap inside cardboard boxes with lots of packing paper to help it. It's MSRP, but I feel like their packaging is worth the extra costs. Plus I'm not supporting Amazon's cheapening of the economy, so it works for me.

You could just send it through Tenso, or wait for it to come out before you order.

I've never heard of Tenso. What's that?

Complete blu ray box for Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet coming out this week. (subbed) Think I'll wait for more images of it once it gets released before making a decision to pick it up or not.

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I know a lot of people add a magazine to their orders from Amazon Japan to get things shipped in a box. Not sure if it’s a new policy, but I just ordered 12 books (mix of novels, manga and large A4 size art books) and it was shipped in a giant bubble mailer. Luckily the books themselves didn’t suffer any major damage, but the obi were destroyed on a few. Really rethinking about ordering anything from them anymore.

I can't believe they would even have a bubble mailer large enough to ship 12 books in, that is totally insane. Amazon worldwide has become nothing bit shit anymore for their shipping practices. I may start importing more JP stuff from CDJapan, at least they use boxes and lots of bubblewrap for all the anime I've ordered from them - even for two JP Blu-ray singles they ship them in a box.

That's a shame to hear about AMZ JP shipping stuff like that. I really wish they would add options for shipping like saying what you'd like to ship it and if you want any inserts. I'd pay $5-10(anything over that would really just be greed) selecting the option for a box and inserts to ensure it comes packaged well. Oh well, thanks for the heads up.

My last order last week was the newest issue of Megami and a CD . They were shrink wrapped to a board and shipped in a box .

I’ve ordered from Amazon Japan for twenty years and the thought of a bubble mailer (and a thin one at that) was completely unexpected.

I’ll be honest, my first and only CD Japan order (the One Last Kiss LP since Amazon was charging 7000 yen for shipping, I kid you not) came damaged and left me upset. When I contacted them, CS told me that since I didn’t order the extra packaging, they couldn’t help me. I may rely on services like Zenmarket in the future for limited items since they wrap things to the point of overkill. Or just Hope Japan opens it’s borders by summer for travel.

Amazon JP sent a copy of madoka rebellion to me in nothing but a paper cardboard bag thing. Absolutely astonishing that it was not damaged.

Next time I order from amazon JP, I think I'll have to wait till i have at least 2 blu rays and probably add a LN just to be safe, that the package is beefy enough that it gets packed well.

I live in Japan and as long as you buy something larger than a single DVD / Blu-Ray they will shrink wrap it to a piece of cardboard glued to the box. Very, very secure. I don't think I've ever gotten a package from them that hasn't been packaged that way, so order strategically! That's crazy to hear about all of those books. Are you sure you didn't order from a third party seller?

I'm a regular at Amazon JP, and its packing service is pretty random these days. I think it depends on what type of goods and its value.

For example, some of my orders this year:
- An external hdd and an usb hub (20000 yen): Shrink wrapped into a cardboard glued to the box. Similar as your experience.
- 2 PVC figures (20000 yen each): Just box and some paper for damping, no wrapping at all. One of the worst packing for figures I've ever seen, damping paper make plastic windows of boxes scratched like hell.
- 1 cheap keyboard (2000 yen): Not even packaged. Just the keyboard and its box. They throw it in front of my door without ringing (I kid you not).
- 2 artbooks (9000 yen): Just box with damping paper. These two are heavy (2kg each) so the damping paper have little help here. Luckily I don't have any problem, but many reviews on Amazon of this one complain about terrible packing make their books damaged.

If they have issue with domestic delivery, it's not hard to imagine what happens with oversea shipping. I try not to order any collector item from them these days, but sometimes I don't have a choice

I just recently purchased from Amazon JP the two A.I.C.O. Incarnation Blu-ray box sets along with a Newtype magazine, specifically so I would get it shipped in a Plank-in-the-Box, but instead they shipped them rubber-banded together inside a bubble bag, so one of the corners of A.I.C.O. Part 1 got crushed. a few days earlier I had received Fate Heaven's Feel III by itself with a Newtype magazine in a separate order, and that one did ship in a plank-in-the-box. So their packaging is definitely getting more random and cheaper as well, just like Amazon in the rest of the world.
