I'll get the TV series when it's released on Blu-ray. Actually it's the reason i held off buying the rest of the seasons on dvd (i have up to 6). But i'm about to just go ahead and buy the rest of the seasons and the GT series too.

Finished watching the latest Blu-ray (Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon) and as mentioned, with each later release of the film, less amount of the white particles. Very colorful. I feel all giddy like when I was younger with the Super Saiyan 3 and Gojita.

On to DBZ Season 9...

IMHO, It's worth it. Like others on here, went from old ugly fansubs to Japanese versions with commercials, to watching it in straight Japanese via rental stores, DVD's and now Blu. With GT, I never enjoyed it when it first came out in Japan and watched it via Japanese video rentals and stopped like episode 18...but after watching the two seasons complete and having finished it up, I enjoyed it. Sure, some parts were annoying but happy they included the GT movie on the second set.

Well the problem is you started in the Black Star Dragonballs Saga which is the worst part of GT. Well the Shadow Dragon Saga wasn't that great either but Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta made it worth it. Best parts of GT are the Baby Saga and the Super Android 17 Saga.

So the answer to that question is they will release that 10th anniversary movie as soon as the current licensing from I believe Kidmark or whatever that company is called expires. Funimation does have full rights to the rest of the original Dragon Ball series and does own the movies for Dragon Ball 2nd, 3rd, and the 10th anniversary movie but thing is they probably want to give it the same treatment they did with DBZ and DBGT.

The first episodes to hit Blu-ray will be Dragon Ball Kai. Funimation is releasing "part" of the first "season" of Dragon Ball Kai on May 18th, 2010. I'm not sure, but it is possible some of it has already seen a release in its native region, Japan.

If you're unfamiliar with Dragon Ball Kai, read this: http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Ball_Z_Kai

Long story short: remastered in 16:9 HD and they cut out all of the filler. Think: director's cut of Dragon Ball Z.

I bought all the orange bricks, so I don't know if I want to buy it all again and again and again. I think I might hold out for a 4:3 Dragon Box on Blu-ray. When they remastered for that release, they apparently remastered in 4:3 in HD, so it's definitely possible. Actually, to be totally honest, I'll probably end up buying both Kai and 4:3 Dragon Box on Blu-ray once they get definitive releases. I'm not one to screw around with this "part 1" crap Funimation is trying to skewer the fans with.

That wasn't the case because you see I made a post a year ago about the original Dragon Ball series and then got a reply just very recently about the season 1 boxset of Dragon Ball Funimation released on dvd. Nothing to do with Blu-ray or DBZ.

I bought 100s of recordable vhs tapes to record Toonami for DBZ multiple times and all of those other shows on there, the vhs releases, the dvd releases, the ultimate uncut dvds that were never finished, the 16:9 season sets, the Dragon Box boxsets, and now here comes Blu-ray. Dragon Ball Kai is being released as partial season sets so like 10-14 episodes per set.

Hahaha, nice one.

I'm personally waiting for the Remastered Uncut 16:9 versions to come out on Blu-ray. However, I gotta say, Dragon Ball Kai looks pretty damn good. Kai seems to preserve the nice colors of the original, with the sharpness of the Remastered. It's a nice mix, I'm just not sure how it will compare, as Kai is way shorter than regular DBZ.

This is a good thing. DBZ has WAY too much filler. And I don't just mean things like the time Goku spent on Snake Way or the Garlic Jr. "saga". Each episode probably contains around 5 minutes average of important material with the rest of the episode made up of worthless filler.

Average fight -
Fighters talk smack
Fighters square off
Fighters "power up"
Fighters hit each other a bit
Fighters "reveal" they were holding back and power up again
Fighters hit each other a bit
Fighters agree to go to maximum and real fight begins

Yeah but that question was from someone replying to something I said a year ago about the original Dragon Ball series and about dvd and that person with the question was thinking that it had something to do with Blu-ray which it wasn't.

I'm not the guy you're talking to, but Dude!, just stop. Even if he made a mistake, just let it go.

If I think about it, you are right. I've been recently watching DBZ in youtube, and some fights do take a few episodes to even start.

Do you know how many episodes Kai will have?

i didnt mind the snake way parts it made me laugh when i first seen it uncut. when that chick explains the rules for russian roulette. i hope they keep all the swear words. there was definately to much filler on the cell games. i edited that fight from the point goku stepped into the ring to when cell is finally defeated. the actual fight is only an hour long. they didnt need six discs to show that

The dub has no real swear words. Maybe "hell" a couple of times, where appropriate.

The original Japanese uses words which are seemingly analogous to English curse words, but in reality don't carry the same connotations. For example, "shimatta" is often translated by fans as "damn" or "shit", but when dubbed it is usually translated as "oh, no!" So while "damn" might be a more direct translation (I'm honestly not sure), something like "oh, no!" actually manages the subtext more accurately. There is a taboo attached to curse words, and the characters are not intended to be demonized in that way... usually.

And as a final note, I'd like to point out that Dragon Ball is shounen, and shounen is not designed for adults. It often has brutal, bloody violence which would make it adult material in the US, but it's really generally for young boys. Cursing is not something which would be commonplace on a cartoon for young boys.

I only like certain sagas of DBZ such as the Cell and Majin Buu. Same thing with GT, I only like certain ones. I'm just curious how many episodes can fit in one 50GB disc.
