I was this close to picking up the complete series DVD set at Best Buy this weekend, so this is music to my ears!

Ugh... what a letdown. Maybe it'll look fine but this idea that people won't watch pillarboxed content is so silly.

Admittedly, I would prefer it being released in the 4x3 aspect ratio, as that's what it was shot for, as Simon's blog states. However, given the extra work done by him to try and make it work in widescreen, I'll give it a shot, although I didn't intend on unloading my Complete Series box set anytime soon...

Just as long as the original image isn't cropped, I don't have a problem if the new transfer has extra image on the sides.

Given the remastered episodes will be shown early next year on HBO, I'll have to see for myself in how much visual info we lose (or gain) by this process.

True, at the very least we'll be able to make informed decisions by the time these hit the shelves.

I know you meant to add "...behind Joanie Loves Chachi" to the end of that sentence.

I have never seen an episode of The Wire I am ashamed to say. Guess I will have to rectify that soon.

Is this better than The Sopranos? Because I'm currently making my way through that for the first time and it's blowing my mind. HBO has the best shows, hands down.

The Wire, The Sopranos and Breaking Bad are my 3 favorite series ever. I can never put an order to them though.

Bravo HBO, did not expect this would get a BD release, to be honest.

Now, give me Tales from the Crypt, please.

Easily my favorite show of all times.

I seem to remember reading (on here and elsewhere) that this would never be released in HD.

Day 1 for me.

HBO doesn't handle TftC on home video. It's handled by Warner which is part of the same corporate family but for all intents and purposes something like this has absolutely no bearing on TftC's chances on Blu.

I'd be shocked TftC wasn't edited on video and stuck in SD though. Has it appeared in HD anywhere?

Simon's blog said they had to crop some of the original image in some scenes to keep the filming effect of some 4:3 scenes in the transfer to 16x9

read the post here http://davidsimon.com/the-wire-in-hd/

the one thing that gives me hope is that Simon and people who worked on the Wire put a lot of close attention to detail to the transfer
