all in 1 systems are for people who want a (true) movie experience without doing the work. hand built systems will always rain supreme. spend more do it right, dont be the person who gets laughed at when your company leaves. or dont do 1 at all, save your money and dignity.

Not sure how I feel about this thread. On one hand it restates a simple truth echoed for years in these forums. On the other it bloats said truth with a bunch of judgemental BS.
Best results from self-assembled HT systems? Yes. Good results from HTIB systems? It's possible. Losing dignity over the quality of material possesions? If so, there are other things in that persons life that need prioritizing and attention other than their HT setup as a source of personal reassurance and self-worth. ![]() Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 12-22-2012 at 11:45 AM. |

I bought my HTiB Pioneer HTP-071 about a week ago and there aint a damn thing wrong with it. It supports all the video and Audio codecs out there right now and its the type of Reciever from Pioneer that you can add additional speakers to it if you so desire or replace the ones that come it with it and add better ones, which a set of Tower Speakers IS in my near future. But right now it gives the wife and I the "Movie Theater Experience" we have craved for awhile. I love my setup pure and simple.

It simply depends on what you value. I will never be able to buy an HTIB. It's just not in my nature. I've owned 9 different systems I've pieced together(a couple in particular I miss dearly).
Many people just want surround sound, want it to be simple, and don't want to spend a ton. There's nothing wrong with that. |

Yeah, I wouldn't listen to people like that and enjoy whatever system you have. If you get the surround sound experience and enjoy the movies with your set up, that's all that matters.
Anyways, you have a nice setup and enjoy it with your own ears. |

![]() I have an Onkyo HTIB that I love and wouldn't want to replace anytime soon. I'm in agreement with everyone here though. If you like what you hear from your system then by all means enjoy it. I had an uncle that used a boombox as a surround sound system. I knew it was bad but he loved it, so what do I know. |

I think it's utterly ignorant that htib systems get such a bad rep. I recently got a Sony BDVE2100 htib system which is no where near top of the line for htibs and I'm completely happy with it. It supports every newer codec even PCM. After calibrating the system and setting all the speakers at the right height and angles, it sounds awesome. I'm not saying I'm an audiophile but I do know what sounds good n what doesn't after years of DJing and producing music. Would I love to build my own system? Of course, who wouldn't ? But what I have fits my needs. For one, I live in an apartment, I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of a custom system. But more importantly I have an 18 month son who's beyond curious and likes to get into things. When he knocks over a speaker stand it's not that big of a deal but if it was an expensive surround speaker, I'd probably be livid. Once I have my own home and my son is older, I'm sure I'll build by own. You really can't knock on people for not building their own home theatre systems it's just ignorant.

Each person and their situation is different.. When I was in the Army, I had several HTIBs and they worked well. Especially now some HTIBs come with an actual AVR and you can upgrade your speakers once you get into this hobby more... I mean I recommend building your own home theater but I also understand why people get sound bars or a HTIB..

Out of all the home theater in box units that I have own, the Panasonic sc-bt300 / sa-bt300 is the best one! My only issue now with it is no 3D

A good solution for those with an htib if dignity is really an issue - only have friends over who either have inferior systems or who aren't as interested in audio perfection.
