... well I didn't mention it, but was absolutely thrilled when it came out! Those gorilla scenes are great fun. It's a valued part of the collection now! Think I saw that same gorilla in an Ed Wood movie once.
I didn't mention A*P*E either, if anyone wants to see one of the shabbiest apesuits ever playing the title role. |

Well, unfortunately, I think I'll wait to see reviews, especially with the maliging of 3D Film Archive. No reason to pay full price ahead of time if it's misaligned.
I especially liked the quote of keeping it as originally released. Even if it were not maximally aligned originally? What a load of BS. Is someone getting defensive about their work? Last edited by lucasatakros; 05-13-2022 at 09:40 PM. Reason: correction |

You have to feel bad for David and ClassicFlix. They clearly wanted 3DFA assistance. Too bad UCLA ever got involved. Now where are they going to find someone to do alignment corrections, a reasonably priced 3D disc master, and an anaglyph version? I wouldn't be surprised if their disc is delayed. Hopefully, 3DFA can get back on the project. I feel like ClassicFlix should be allowed to work with whoever they want since they paid for the license.

What a bunch of petty, offensive comments from MacQueen. It's hard to believe a guy like that ever held a position with the UCLA Film and TV Archive. Are we sure he retired? Wouldn't surprise me if they told him to get lost. It makes absolutely no sense for him to demean the 3DFA for using the Kickstarter route to get movies released. The guy obviously has no clue how the world works these days.
If it wasn't for the Kickstarter campaigns, we wouldn't have a lot of the obscure, vintage 3-D titles we now have in our libraries like DYNASTY and REVENGE OF THE SHOGUN WOMEN, along with all the great special features that were included with those releases. SEPTEMBER STORM would not have happened without a Kickstarter. The upcoming ROBOT MONSTER - which will be loaded with tons of special features - would be languishing in a vault somewhere. There is no way ROBOT MONSTER would be getting the deluxe restoration treatment it's getting now without a Kickstarter. And what about the archive's non-3-D Kickstarter projects like AFRICA SCREAMS? We now have a pristine version of that on a Blu-ray that is loaded with all types of special features, including a 3-D Abbott & Costello comic book from the early 1950s. There are hundreds upon hundreds of fans who have contributed, gladly, to all of the 3DFA's Kickstarter campaigns because we all know the awesome work they do. And we'll soon be getting a restored version of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK that will look better than when it was released. MacQueen acts like having to do a Kickstarter is something to be ashamed about. He comes off like some moronic privileged upper-crust, insufferable, sanctimonious fop. Harris comes off like he's driving MacQueen's clown car. |

I sympathize with your position, but I would like to support ClassicFlix for taking a chance on a vintage 3D license. Will pre-order and hope they license more. There's nothing to purchase yet though...

Yeah, I'm going to support it no matter what. It's going to be a great year for classic Golden Age 3-D. THE DIAMOND WIZARD and I, THE JURY - sounds like a great double feature. These are two titles I'm really excited to see. I've never watched these movies and it will be great to see them for the first time the way they were meant to be seen - in 3-D.

As people have noted on this forum time and again, golden age 3D is a niche within a niche. We’re lucky to be getting anything at all. 3DFA have a wealth of work queued up for hopefully years to come. I suggest we all just keep calm and remember the old playground adage that names can never hurt us! |

Let's cool the rhetoric, guys.
Those of you who are declaring you won't buy this now because the 3DFA is no longer going to work on the disc are making a mistake. We don't know what happened behind the scenes. CF might have been told they can't have the 3DFA work on the disc if they want to put it out. The 3DFA might have offered to quit the project to tamp down the controversy. All sorts of things might have happened. The fact is, we don't know. Refusing to buy a vintage 3D release and/or saying spiteful things about CF will only serve to hurt us in the end. Dave might read this thread and decide to a) not put out the disc after all and/or b) never license another vintage 3D release. Do I think Scott MacQueen is as much a jerk as Jeffrey Welles? Yes. Will his petty jerkishness keep me from this disc? No. As I've pointed out on this board before, I've supported every vintage 3D release, 3DFA or not. I've bought films I had no interest in or knew I downright hated. Why? To continue to support Golden and Silver Age 3D movies. This is CF's first 3D release. Let's not be as petty as Scott MacQueen and end up making it their last. |

Well said, Todd.
I am a HUGE 3DFA fan. And at the same time I WILL be buying this blu ray. I have all of 3DFA's 3D releases. And I have all of Warner Bros.' and Twilight Time's Columbia classic 3D releases, among others from the Golden and Silver Age not handled by 3DFA. And while I believe the 3DFA touch may have provided improvements, I'm happy to have them all. After all, what's the alternative? Not having 3D discs to play on my $1600 3D TV set ... FFS?? Right now I fear David's recent silence signals troubling news. David, if you're reading this, please reassure us that ClassicFlix will be able to make this blu ray happen -- even if you do not yet have a date-certain by which it will hit the streets -- and that the rights holder has not self-defeatingly pulled it. No matter how magnificent, a restoration without a home media component is a tree falling in the forest. And a 3D restoration without a blu ray release is.... bupkis. I’m actually tired of these older 3D movies being released with alignment issues because that’s how they were originally screened in cinemas, and knowing that they could have been fixed, but because of money and/or stubbornness, they weren’t.
This originally had alignment issues and a few posts back you can see them and how they were fixed. If the blu-ray comes with them, I will not be supporting this. I don’t care about politics and blaming and pointing fingers, but the 3DFA has a proven track record of dozens of quality 3D blu-ray that they were involved in. These other people seem to be talking out of their €&%. And I find it somewhat worrying that everyone involved in this restoration is only talking about how amazing it looks, but no one is addressing the alignment issues that we’ve seen exist. Friday the 13th also had an amazing 4k restoration, but the 3D could have used some more tlc. So if this is gonna be another F13th scenario, I will not be supporting this release, specially knowing that that was a team, that not only is a fan of this movie, but has worked on the movie before. This was probably gonna be the easiest job the 3DFA had to do. And I don’t subscribe to the notion that we should be happy we got it after all these years. Either it’s worthy of my very hard earned money, or it’s not. |

I agree on supporting ClassicFlix, who shouldn’t be blamed for the actions of an extremely unprofessional libel-spewing overgrown tantrummy toddler archivist, nor for those of his frankly embarrassing reputation-tarnished shill who should be ashamed of his ridiculous comments. I will be supporting this release for the sake of David at CF and will hope for the best. I will also continue to hold out hope that the 3DFA can somehow return to the project.
