So I guess no more free 4k upgrades since that was a GP not YouTube feature

Does the $5.99 credit work on movies in YouTube and will they port to MA in the meantime? Still trying to finish the free MA promo

Seems like it. If I go to YouTube now, I can find all of my MA movies.

Starting June 15, 2021, the YouTube app will be your new home for movies and shows on Roku, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs.¹ The Google Play Movies & TV app will no longer be available on these devices.

To access all of your previous purchases, log into the YouTube app using the account you use on Google Play Movies & TV, navigate to the “Library” tab, and click on “Your movies and shows.”

Yes. Reading it more closely, it refers to certain smart TV's, so I guess Google Play itself isn't disappearing, just the app from smart TV's. I didn't mean to be alarmist, just wanted to point out that buried in the email is a code worth $5.99.

It says our library will be, but YouTube purchased content will not work with family sharing. I don't know if that means YouTube purchases won't link to MA either, but our current Google Play library will port over?

In the MA section where you link your retailers, YouTube is listed in the graphic for Google Play, so it should work.

Here's the text of the whole email:

Quote:
Changes are coming to Google Play Movies & TV on certain devices

Starting June 15, 2021, the YouTube app will be your new home for movies and shows on Roku, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs.¹ The Google Play Movies & TV app will no longer be available on these devices.
To access all of your previous purchases, log into the YouTube app using the account you use on Google Play Movies & TV, navigate to the “Library” tab, and click on “Your movies and shows.”
Here are a few things to be aware of:
• All of your past purchases will be available on YouTube. You will be able to rent and buy the latest movies and shows on YouTube.²
• Your Google Play credits can be used on YouTube to make purchases.
• Play Family Library purchases can be viewed on YouTube, but purchases made on YouTube are not eligible for family sharing. Purchases made on the Google Play website or app will continue to support family sharing.
• Your Watchlist is not available on YouTube, but you can set up Playlists.
• All of your purchased movies and shows are also accessible on these platforms.
• We are providing a “thank you” gift to our Google Play Movies & TV users who are affected by this change - your unique code is xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Go to youtube.com/redeem to receive your credit to apply to your next movie or show purchase on YouTube. More detailed instructions here.

I just got the email. And I know I will be affected since I have an LG tv and it's the only place I can watch the movies that didn't port from Google Play.

YouTube has sucked playing movies, so I hope this means they will upgrade the tv app?

Not really surpising. Google never put the slightest bit of effort into Google Play Movies. It was a half-assed effort from the get go.

Does this mean we will start to see more movie sales on YouTube? [...or that Google will continue it's tradition of not really having much in way of discounts?]

They already have. If you have MA linked to Play, you are also linked to YouTube. All of your movies are there available from the main drop down as Your Movies.

The Google Play Store isn't going away.

Movies purchased on YouTube already port to Movies Anywhere.

Unless YouTube breaks your account, like they did to me, by changing it without my knowledge or any explanation to a "brand" account. Can't access any of my Google content. I lost my Google Music stuff when that shut down because of it.

mostly this means I'm gonna have no choice but to delete and start over.

This might be a price mistake, but the 4K purchase price Where'd You Go Bernadette is the same as the rental price at $3.99. The movie is also MA.

How many of you thought, “F*** You, Disney!” when you saw that Disney’s Raya the last Dragon is available for purchase for a measly $29.99? $29-frickin’-.99?

You’re outta your ever-lovin’ mind, Disney, thinking we are gonna pay $30 so you can recoup your losses because you didn’t want to wait because movie-going experiences are not ideal at this time.

Sorry for the rant... That just irked me to see such a high price for a movie - and the worst part is I really have no intention of wanting to see that movie at this time. I guess I’m spoiled by the recent $4.99 drops from Mickey D.

Guess this is what happens when you try to give up soda drinks. I’m missing’ my daily dosage of Pepsi right now.

Sigh--I'm VERY relieved to have setup shop predominately at iTunes once I made the switch from physical to digital.

Google has just lost their damn minds. I'm a BIG Apple fan, but my whole house is setup w/ Google assistants & Nest hardware. I LOVED Google Play Music, but then they decided to burn it to the ground and "carry over all the features" to..ahem..YouTube music... which is absolute dogshit and borderline unusable.

Google seems to just keep trashing their functioning services and cramming them into YouTube for a horrible user experience. It will "work": 1080p...maybe even 4K.

But good luck getting their YouTube team to effectively put in 24hz, HDR DV, Atmos, or any other quality AV features.

Google is now full-steam subscriptions, purchases are all but an after-thought. Play Music purchases cannot even be ACCESSED anymore for Pete's sake.

Love em' or hate em', but I can still access my iTunes purchases from 20 years ago and I see no sign of them removing that even if they stop selling music altogether and go 100% Apple Music subscription.

I think it only took two weeks from the Disney+ 'rental' period at $29.99 plus membership to SELLING (not rental) the title at $29.99 on all streaming platforms.

It's definitely not moving as they hoped-- blink and it will be down to $19.99.

Some of you might be aware of this. You can redeem the code on google play instead of youtube.

Also, I wonder if you log out from your TV and log in with a new account, will you get the credit on the new account as well?
