Johnns, that's a really good list of songs, but I have to laugh at your #17. Also, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people list the song title before the artist. Don't mind me, though.

For the sake of convenience, I'm just going to post this list of my top 20 favorite instrumental jams that I made a few months back... all of these songs are like 10-20 minutes long. Strangely, this list does not include my all-time favorite song ("Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which definitely clears the 10-min mark ). I guess I just didn't want to repeat any artists. My favorite live versions of many of these are in parentheses.

CCR - I Heard It Through the Grapevine
Chicago - Poem 58
Country Joe & the Fish - Section 43
Deep Purple - Child in Time (live from Made in Japan)
Devendra Banhart - Seahorse
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing (live from the 1988 Nelson Mandela benefit concert)
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Genesis - Firth of Fifth
Herbie Mann - Push Push
Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun (live from the Band of Gypsys album)
King Crimson - Starless
Led Zeppelin - No Quarter (live from The Song Remains the Same)
Love - Revelation
MGMT - Siberian Breaks
My Morning Jacket - Dondante (live from Okonokos)
Neil Young - Cowgirl in the Sand (Live at the Fillmore)
Paul Butterfield - East-West
Pink Floyd - Echoes (preferably accompanied by the visuals of 2001: A Space Odyssey
Television - Marquee Moon (Live at the Waldorf)
Traffic - Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys

EDIT: Also, this list is sorely missing "Moanin" by Charles Mingus.

#17 is one of the best love songs. It may not be as unconventional as some of the other songs on my list, but I consider it a standard.

Nice list.
How do you feel about the song that immediately precedes Whipping Post on the album? I consider it probably the greatest one-two punch to conclude an album of all-time.

Cool list, the links are a nice touch. Your Silent Face is probably my favorite New Order song although I have a real soft spot for Love Vigilantes. I love Disorder by Joy Division.

MARRY ME.

I would contribute to the thread with my own Top 20 list, but it would inevitably be riddled with Joy Division and New Order songs. Decades and Doubts Even Here are my favourites from the two bands respectively.

1. Eminem f/ Dido - Stan
2. Alexz Johnson - Skin
3. blink-182 - Adam's Song
4. Dave Matthews Band - Crash Into Me
5. Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life
6. Gin Blossoms - Found Out About You
7. Bush - Swallowed
8. The Killers - Under The Gun
9. Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know

idk lol Probably something from The Beatles, some other 80s and 90s acts.

I think i'm the POPiest here, and i don't want to repeat the same artist twice:

1. No Doubt - Don't Speak (all-time favorite)
