Can't believe Marilyn Manson version of Sweet Dreams is better than the Eurythmics.
I would like to add the Australian Jeff Buckley to the list of people who have sung Hallelujah better than Leonard Cohen. The link in Sean's post 23 is good but I feel the album version has more emotion and slightly better phrasing

Cyndi Lauper's version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Robert Hazard), Money Changes Everything (The Brains)and Walk On By (Dionne Warwick) and When You Were Mine (Prince).
Billy Idol - To Be a Lover (William Bell) and Mony Mony (Tommy James and the Shondells).
Iggy Pop - Wild One (Johnny O'Keefe)
Bette Midler - The Wind Beneath My Wings (Colleen Hewett).
Duran Duran - Perfect World (Lou Reed).
Cat's in the Cradle - Ugly Kid Joe (Harry Chapin)
Over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy (Judy Garland)
Tainted Love - Soft Cell (Gloria Jones)
Respect - Aretha Franklin (Otis Redding)
Twist and Shout - The Beatles (The Isley Brothers)
Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin (Kris Kristofferson)

Man, I could go on forever but it's getting late. Interesting thread.

While I wouldn't necessarily say it's better, I prefer Fear Factory's version of "Cars" to the original.

And I know it's all opinions, but no way in hell is that Circle Jerks cover of "Fortunate Son" better than the original....

Originally written for Bat Out Of Hell 2, but not recorded by Meat until Bat 3. Original recording was by Pandora's Box then covered by Celine Dion but Meat and Marion Raven are unbeatable

Saturday Night, by Ned's Atomic Dustbin (1993), from the So I married an Ax Murderer soundtrack. IMHO this rocks a lot harder than the original by the BCR:

I only knew about Nina's and the cover from Muse.

From Wikipedia

"Feeling Good" (also known as "Feelin' Good") is a song written by English composers Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse for the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd. It was first performed on stage in 1964 by Cy Grant on the UK tour and by Gilbert Price in 1965 with the original Broadway cast.[1]

Nina Simone recorded "Feeling Good" for her 1965 album I Put a Spell on You. The song has also been covered by Traffic, Michael Bublé, John Coltrane, George Michael, Victory, Eels, Joe Bonamassa, EDEN, Muse, Black Cat Bones, Sammy Davis Jr., Bassnectar, and Avicii, among others.

This live version from Wembley Stadium is my favorite version of the song.
