Ordered the following yesterday:
  • Anne Of The Thousand Days
  • Beat The Devil
  • Don't Bother To Knock
  • Gloria
  • Gun Fury 3D
  • The Incident
  • The Snake Pit
  • Three Coins In The Fountain

I had a $2 coupon for previously reviewing a TT Blu-ray which took $2 off each title.

Ordered the three most important titles off my wishlist:
Model Shop
Gloria
Auto Focus

(was going to wait for UK versions of these, but with Arrow's Model Shop being locked, and Sony now insisting that their titles be locked, I figure I might as well bite the bullet.)

I've got 8 titles left on my wishlist, but 4 of them are Italian titles that I believe are from those bad, noise filled scans. So even spending $9 a pop for them feels like too much.

Grabbed:

Kiss of Death
Short Night of Glass Dolls
Theatre of Blood
The Train (Encore Edition)
Whirlpool

$12.60 shipping for five titles from SAE isn't great, but I've wanted all of these for a while and don't want to wait any longer in case they sell out.

WBShop sale is usually around the weekend near the official 1st day of Spring -- so approx 3/20-3/22 or 3/27-3-29 sometimes including Thursday

Miss Sadie Thompson 3D appears sold out now

Kiss of Death seems to be sold out at SAE and I'm not able to pull it up at TT either -- I'm not sure if that's temp since seemed to be fair number at TT yesterday.

I am going to have to place an order larger than I really wanted as a few titles I was holding off on are at low quantity and may not make it to the next sale (Chato's Land, Boxcar Bertha, Anastasia...)

Very fast service. I placed an order with TT last night and received an email today that Our Serviceworks has packed my order and it's ready for pickup.

While I was tempted to pick up a lot more, I ultimately decided to only pick up the low stock titles (if they're available at both sites then I skipped it) and the $9 titles. I'm betting the market's actually smaller than the 3,000 print run for most of these titles so they'll eventually be marked down further. Sad but I can't justify paying so much for barebones releases that are blind buys.

I know these are bound to drop in price further but I’ve wanted them for awhile, so what the hell. From the TT site:

I went in for 5 titles from SAE. Even with the shipping cost to Canada this still worked out to be a fairly good deal at about $16CDN per title. These show up used in shops locally for about $50.

I know nothing about these companies. Do they remaster or is it just old/obscure titles that aren't on blu anywhere else?

One boutique label, two retail distributors. They do not remaster, they put on disc what they receive from the studio, so picture quality varies frequently by the studio that provided it.

Do know that many titles that were "exclusive" Twilight Time releases have since been re-released by either their parent studio or another boutique label, though there are some rather notable titles that have gone OOP with Twilight Time and inexplicably not been re-released since, including Best Picture Academy Award nominees As Good As It Gets and Breaking Away. Recent titles released after their TT releases went OOP include 1988's The Blob, Sleepless In Seattle, and Philadelphia (in 4K at that).

Twilight Time doesn't mess with what the studios gave them. Many of them (esp Sony) were brand new transfer done by the studio which are pristine, some are decades old transfers done in the early days of HD remastering and are at best passable, some are very limited by the source elements and may be as good as they're ever going to be (Comes a Horseman), and at least one was supposedly supervised/approved by the studio/director/DP but was widely considered a massive screwup (the OOP Night of the Blue Living Dead) and is on the level of the Friedkin supervised French Connection though at least Friedkin was hands on and didn't approve that it email while on a drinking binge.

Many of them have releases elsewhere in the world, some in the US, but many of the them are unique to TT. Some of the releases are identical to the TT transfer, a few are better, many of the international versions are Region Locked.

Most of them come with nice booklets/essays, many of the them have a commentary track done by Nick Redman and Julie Kirgo (co-founder and guiding force behind TT and his well respected in film circle wife), sometimes other film critics or historians are included. Those tracks are usually quite interesting, but certainly range from OK to exceptional.

Many/most of the titles have some sort of isolated score in the audio options.

Most of the score tracks are unique to these discs, some of the commentaries have ported over to the international versions or the US re-releases

Isn't it usually whatever day is the anniversary of the site opening?

That could very well be the reason it happens then, 1st Day of Spring is easier to remember esp since WBShop is on it's 4th or 5th owner by now. There were similar sales (5/50, 5/45, 4/44) before 2016 but I couldn;t find any in March.

Last 4 years. The Start dates are easier to find, the end dates often aren't mentioned in all the old threads and often seem to change from the start of a sale. The other problem is some of the sales didn't start until late evening and first post sometimes wasn't until 3/24 so a couple of my start dates were off by a day so the 23rd wasn't as clearly noted,

1st year as Bolder Road
3/23/2016 (Wed) - 3/26/2016 (Sat) 4 for 44 (no Free Shipping)

3/23/2017 (Thursday) - 3/262017 (Sund) 4 for 44 (FS)

3/23/2018 (Frid) - 3/26/2018 (Mon) 4 for 44 (FS)

I think this was after Araca Merchandising bought the site in mid 2018 though I've never gotten a clear date
3/23/2019 (Sat)- 3/25/2019 (Mon) 4 for 44 (FS)

3/23 seems to clear that up significantly -- last year was labelled a 10th Anniversary Sale and a couple of the older sales called Birthday sales, so it probably is the original opening date back when it was part of Warner. I guess it will be interesting to see if they start on a Monday this year or do a Friday through Monday sale and end on 3/23. I guess I'd suggest looking around Th or Friday just to be careful, but not really worry until Tues 3/24 if it doesn't start. Unfortunately if they have the usual 90 day new release delay, I may not have enough items to worry about since I caught up on most of the titles for similar prices at B&N sales or Target B2G1. I really hope they keep doing their MULTI-DISC/TV Set add on -- last summer it was 30%, but in Nov it was 40%.

I thought it happened later than that though probably doesn't matter that much in the big picture. Interesting that the BolderRoad people put in so much effort in pulling off all the WarnerShops and then almost immediately must have started the deal of moving them on again. I'm not sure if it more like Flipping Houses or Stripping and Selling car parts from 'acquired' vehicles. It's almost as bad as trying to figure out the SuperD/Alliance tentacles except those were much larger M&A so it made bigger splashes in the business papers.

Back to Twilight Time
I'm a little shocked that The Hawaiians has been sitting at 2 copies for a couple hrs on SAE and The Remains of the Day at 2 copies on TT.

Scorpio now down to 12 copies at SAE.

I'm not seeing anything else under 50 at SAE yet. TT.com is much harder to figure out low stock even knowing that all of these are estimates at best.

EDIT: The Hawaiians and then there was 1

EDIT: Well -- And Then There Was ..... too obvious so, SOLD OUT
