Question Dune Extended Edition SteelBook & Metal Box

I have the Dune: Extended Edition DVD metalbox (I had always lumped it with my other DVD steels), but when those Best Buy blu-ray metalboxes came out in May, I was reminded of the difference between my Dune and other DVD steels.

This website shows the Dune EE steelbook as having been released in Jan '06. There was a later steelbook edition of Dune released to replace the Dune Viva Metalbox, something to do with a lawsuit, but from doing some research, those Dune steelbooks didn't come out till around March of '08, whereas the Dune metalbox came out in January of '06.

I remember purchasing my copy of Dune while deployed overseas at the main PX at Bagram, and that was toward the end of my deployment at the beginning of '06. I also remember seeing both the Dune metalboxes and the later Dune steels being in stores at the same time, as they were phasing out the metalboxes I suppose, and this was at least a year or more after my purchase if I remember correctly. Is there someone who can update the website? Eventually. I'm going to add all of the DVD/blu-ray titles I own to my profile, and I would like to be accurate with this title.

*Edit...came across some info that showed the Dune DVD SteelBook came out around the second week of Sep '07. Will update product page for this shortly...

Dont know if youre interested but the recent 2-disc German Dune release has the extended cut on one of the discs which has much better PQ than the DVD.

See the Dune thread in the US blu-ray forums.

Thanks, and sorry for the late reply...haven't logged in here in awhile. I'm fine with my DVD, as I don't double dip/upgrade my DVDs. I did that years ago going from VHS to DVD, but not going through all that again

I'm really just trying to find out how one can update the website here on the error showing the Dune Extended Edition DVD steelbook being released in Jan '06, when it was the metalbox that was, and the steel wasn't released, from what I can gather, until over 2 years later in Mar '08.

Will try another search here in a bit to see if I can find something on updating the site...

Edit: I think I might have found out how to here, or at least submit a question/suggestion for this issue...https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=183549

I have borrowed a copy of the Dune DVD steel from a friend of mine, and to compare it with my metalbox copy, for those that are not aware that there was a metalbox version that came out first. Metalbox on bottom and left...

I have updated the steelbook entry for Dune, while adding an entry for the metalbox release, for those interested anyway...

Well I can assure you that if you are a Dune fan, you will certainly want to see it on blu-ray! The PQ is a big improvement from the DVD and the US and German blu-rays dont cost much either.

I really like the DUNE dvd steelbook/metalpak(?), but I wish they used black plastic as opposed to light grey:

Yours is the original metalbox, which I have as well, which was released in Jan. '06, and was later phased out in favor of a steelbook around Mar. of '08. Don't remember right now what the interior of the steelbook was like compared to the metalbox...
