The manga is just adapting the novels so they will always be one step behind. It really depends on which way you would rather read it. It is also possible that the manga does not fully adapt the novels. I would always choose the original over the adaptation. So I recommend the novels.

The manga is mainly there to promote the LNs. Lots of manga have been made to promote a LN series, and many stop early on. It's all about that promotion. Anime promotes the LNs, a manga promotes the LNs, and it can work in reverse. There are manga that have been made to promote "original" anime.
