Must be just the DVDs that are locked to Region 2 then. The BDs are region free.

That one, and several other LOTR releases were from Entertainment in Video, and not Warner, so that's why they were locked. All the Warner releases for LOTR/Hobbit are region free for BD.

Unless I'm mistaken, that was the theatrical version. And, don't quote me, but I thought that was limited to the FOTR. These are the extended versions, which you can get separately.

(Not an expert. You might want to check with someone who knows for sure. I could be completely wrong.

I have the US FOTR EE and it is the 'green' version. Though, to be fair, I REALLY had to look for the green and only saw it pronounced in about 2 minutes of the film... so it didn't bother me like it did others. I think it is one of those situations where you really have to see the two versions side by side to see the difference. Just watching the film, I am so immersed in the movie that I don't notice it... again, maybe just me.

EE FOTR is the green version. Not aware of there being any EE in any country that isn't.
