My X700 hasn't so much as stuttered once in several months, and I've been watching a high amount of triple-layer discs too. Guess I got one of the good ones, not that it's been 100% hassle-free, but those issues are solved now.

Its hit and miss for me. Top Gun Maverick locked up at the layer change, but Bullet Train was perfectly fine.

I just bought a Hisense 55" U6H and was considering the BDP-X700. Is the success rate greater if HDMI goes straight into TV. Maybe these issues are receiver related?

I jinxed myself, just had a minor stutter on Transformers Age of Extinction haha. Typical, that said I found a few bits of dust and some little smears on the disc after I removed it so that's probably what caused it.

As to your question, maybe/maybe not/maybe sometimes/maybe never — I don't know. Try it and see how it works for you. |

It's a just a blip in these machines unfortunately. A lot of BD-100's freeze on the layer change, usually the last 3rd of the film. It's annoying but its not a huge hassle. When it happens, just hit stop and eject the disc and then close the tray and play it again. It's usually fine after that. |

In the Blu ray hey days Sony players were among the best. I get that physical media has slowly been evolving into niche market but dang, if you sell a player then freakin' support it. Sony should have fixesd this freezing annoyance a long time ago.

Should there be some re-thinking how 4k/uhd discs are mastered or made ? I don't know. |

Nah, they probably just need to implement some sort of buffering system so when the player detects a layer change, it acts to prevent disruption. Basically the same way car CD players and portable players in general work to prevent rampant skipping when in motion. Either that or optimize the memory allocation to prevent it getting clogged up, which seems to be the likely culprit for the issue.
