It’s that time of the year and I was planning on buying a blu-ray game disc from a part of the US where 90+ degree weather is the norm for the next two or so months. Should I be worried about the game being heat damaged on the way to me? It should be in a padded envelope when it arrives to the cooler US state I live in.

So if they ship it brand new, shrinkwrapped from a 95 degree Fahrenheit region of the US, it most likely will not be damaged?

I have had Blu rays and DVD's over the years shipped during the Summer months and have never had any issues with the heat. They discs would need to be left out at a very high temp to have any issues. So I have never been worried about the heat. Good Luck

Direct sunlight on the surface of a disc is the only way it would be damaged and it's obviously in a container inside another container, so it will be fine.

I have some personal experience with this... I bought a copy of this:
![]() when I lived in Japan, for reduced price because it had been faded from being in a store window. Now I don't know if you are familiar with Japan at all, but it doesn't have the nickname "Land of the Rising Sun" for nothing. The sunlight there is intense. I had to use blackout curtains because otherwise I'd be up at 5am everyday. Tons of things in store windows were faded, and you could always find merchandise that was reduced because it had been faded out. Back to the point, my copy of Only Yesterday... See how the color is supposed to be orange/peach? Mine is whitish. So it had been in a window for a long time and cooked for quite a bit, but the disc itself and even the plastic tray holding it are completely fine. |

Ive never heard of heat damage on blu-ray game disc during delivery. Take it from me who lives in a tropical country. I think that physical damage is more likely to happen.

I wondered about this too. I mean if it’s 100F outside, then it’s 120F in a mail truck / shipping container right? I also wonder about discs passing thru Vegas and getting left on the loading dock, where temps are often 110F. Couldn’t the disc warp or the adhesive between the layers separate or something?

The cover is most likely LDPE (low density polyethylene) which has melting point above 100°C where it will start softening up.
The disc is polycarbonate which has higher melting point than LDPE. A lot of 'unseen' plastics in cars are PE and they are exposed to much harsher conditions than movie discs. So unless you start seeing melting plastics in cars or delivery trucks, the discs are safe. Therefore during normal shipping conditions it should be OK. 110~120°F is not too high for LDPE. |

The outdoor high temperature will not ruin the disk. Most of the couriers send the express by car. The interior of the car has the HVAC system for constant temperature. But drop events or heavy objects crashes may damage the disc.

A properly sealed package is insulated from outside temperature. If the item was packed while in proper room temperature, it should be fine during transit until the package is unsealed. When you receive the package and it feels hot, it is only hot on the outside. The sealed item is insulated from heat (and cold) the same way blankets insulate you when you sleep. Beer coolers and thermal bottles work the same way -- by keeping cold things cold and hot ones hot.

If high temperature occurs in Laptop due to battery on large time of charging then it causes trouble for whole laptop.

If the battery of the laptop is on charging for a long time. Then the temperature increases of the battery and it may cause damage to the whole laptop.

I've had cds stored in hot cars well over 100F for months at a time and none appeared to have been damaged. The same goes for below freezing temperatures as well. It's probably not a good to store them at either extreme, however. I have had several dvds "rot" and I'm not sure if it was due to storing them outside or not.
