Do it. One of the best upgrades I've done to my theater. I know there's a lot of snake oil or marginal returns out there, but this is a real one.

Anyone have any experience going from the Epik Legend to a PB-1000? I've been running a pair of Epik Legends in the mancave for about 10 years now. They're still running strong, but I'm being tempted to go ported to get more extension, which is noticeably missing from the sealed Legends when I go from my main room where I have 15" ported subs to the mancave. It's a small room, 10 x 12, so I'm thinking dual PB-1000's should more than suffice, but I'm also wondering if it'll actually be an upgrade as the Legends aren't exactly a slouch. Thoughts?

Due to the overwhelming number of responses, I decided to grab dual PB-1000s.

I read you're post but couldn't respond logically.
You have some kick ass subs like those PSA's, but are asking about PB1000's. That was difficult to comment on. It's like you're driving a 2020 Mustang Shelby 500 and are wanting to know how the 2020 Escape is.
I know you said it's a small room, so no, an all out , blow your hair back, killer sub isn't required.

Fwiw, I had 10" and 12" Paradigm Monitor subs (300w) in a small room and they were perfect!
With the PB's being a bit better than those Monitors I had, I'm very certain that you'll be pleased. Actually, more than pleased.

As an aside, I'm wanting a PB-4000. Like...really, really bad.

The PSAs are in my main room, but the PB-1000's would be for my mancave/second setup where I currently have Epik Legends which are sealed. The mancave is small, 10' x 12' and 9' ceilings. I think the dual PB1000's would be perfect, but I was just wondering if anyone had experience going from the Epik Legend to the PB1000. I can tell there's less extension from the Legends so I was hoping to fill that void with the 1000's. Not looking for deafening SPL, just after the extension.

I just got the shipping notice from SVS, ETA on Wednesday. I'll find out how they compare!

Yeah that 4000 looks (and I'm sure sounds) sweet! Thankfully the curiosity bug hasn't hit me yet because I'm getting plenty of output from the PSAs. Tom V. & Co. really knocked it out of the park with the XV15se. I'd have gone with PSA again, but they didn't really have any offerings for what I wanted to spend, and SVS was the obvious next choice. I'm still amused by the name "SVS".

Yeah, that SVS thing is funny!

I wonít be ready for that 4000 until winter but when I am, Iíll see what PSA has that is comparable.
I like what I hear over at AVS about their subwoofers and also about Tom. His hands on approach gets raves, which Iím sure you know.
Itíd be great to support someone like that.

Yep, I spent so much time chatting with Tom I sometimes wondered how he didn't get sick of me lol. He's a great guy, and for the amount of time we spent chatting (the dude just loves talking shop, and such a wealth of knowledge of course), I wonder how the guy gets any sleep! I'm sure you can't go wrong either way, but for sure I'd have gone PSA if they had something comparable to the PB-1000s. I really love my PSA subs.

I know winter is a ways away, but still looking forward to hearing your impressions whether it's the 4000 or something from PSA.

I’ll definitely do that.

I’m new to good bass. I got a Paradigm Defiance X15 last winter and love it! The app works well as I can easily switch settings when I’m watching movies or listening to music.

The X15 vibrates my couch but I’d like something slamming my chest, like the PB 4000 would. Plus, it’s got an app so I can adjust on the fly easily.

Whatever PSA has that is comparable when I’m ready, I’ll consider. It’ll only be between PSA and SVS, Paradigm is out at that level. It’s too pricey to go up the line.

Just discussing this with you is gonna get me impatient and make me get it sooner, hahaha!

I recently had the same sort of epiphany, when I realized that my Seaton Submersives were not giving me the impact that I was looking for. They had a frequency response in the single digits, so they were great at the subterranean bass making everything vibrate, but I wanted to go a different direction as digging deep was not enough.

I just installed a six pack of REL HT 1508 Predator subs in the front of my room to go along with the pair of SVS SB 2000 pros behind my couch. I was thinking about going with bigger SVS models up front, but I had heard that REL launched a new home theater line. After listening to them at the dealer in town, I immediately pulled out the credit card as it felt like I was getting punched...and that was just a pair of them.

They are breaking in currently, so havenít pushed them with anything yet beyond listening to a jazz cd playing. Even with that limited exposure, I can already tell what these things are capable of once broken in and dialed in.

I have an eD set up with an A2-300, would like something new and more than likely go with SVS considering what I have currently what svs sub would you recommend? The media room is small @13.5x13.5. Was thinking a PB 2000 pro going with prime pinnacle and bookshelf for rears, prime elevation for mid high Atmos not sure on the center prime or ultra.

Thoughts anyone?
Thanks
John

Sounds like youíre definitely on the right track.
I believe the Sub choice is a good one.
Hopefully someone with SVS experience chimes in.

Ha, this site was a source of "upgradeitis" for me for a good 5 years or so when I first joined. I literally had to scale down on audio forums for a while.

On that note, have you tried REW to optimize your sub & speakers? I haven't used it yet myself, but I've heard nothing but good things.

Got my PB1000s for the mancave. Hopefully they'll fill in the void where the sealed Epik Legends rolled off. But I probably won't get to hooking them up until Saturday, too much going on. Although I'm thinking I'll just swap them out real quick and level set with my SPL and run them with a flat EQ for now until I can run a auto-calibration.

No I haven’t.
The X15 comes with ARC built in along with a microphone.
I ran that and then YPAO from the Yamaha AVR.
I level matched with my SPL meter.

I’ve heard of rew but don’t know anything about it. I’m pretty happy with my results as is.
Maybe once I have the 4000, I’ll think on it then.

So I did end up swapping them out real quick on Wednesday and ran them without an auto-calibration, just set the typical levels +3db hot each. Didn't like the sound of them out of the box, but that has been my experience with just about every sub I've ever bought. I've let them run non-stop for 2 days, and as I expected after rechecking the levels, I actually had to tune them down -3 db (had that experience with prior subs, too). Tonight I popped in a movie, and holy crap I'm wondering if I only needed one of these?!. I'm definitely getting the missing lower registers that the sealed Epik Legends couldn't muster. But the big surprise is the kick in the chest at moderate volume. If someone told me a week ago that I could get that from 10" subs at moderate volume, ported or not, I'd have rolled my eyes. Granted they're near-field since it's a small room, but I would have expected that from the Legends being they're sealed, which I didn't get.

These things

How would the sb2000 do in my set up ? I have a velodyne ct 150 now still works but I have had some popping sounds from it on a few movies and afraid its getting old. My room is about 20x13 . And I see its not ported and mine is front ported Just wondering what sound difference would I get . Thanks

You would hear a difference going from the 15” Velodyne to a sealed 12” SVS, but it depends on what effect you are looking for. I have two SB 2000 Pro behind my couch, but I wanted more of a punch instead of a boomy effect back there, as my previous front subs had plenty of boom. You might want to think about the ported version instead which would still cover your room, but give you a bit more bottom end than the sealed box, but still have a punch to it. Just a thought. I have a friend who went from a 15” Velodyne to a ported SVS and complained about the change at first as he thought the Velodyne was louder because it had a boomy effect. Once the SVS was broken in, he started to understand that boomy is not always better.
