The movie is hilarious once they make it to the Titty Twister. Granted the first half of the movie isn't all that good.

Maybe you take it is a serious horror flick? I don't.

It was a BLACK comedy that made me laugh out loud on a few occasions. Most movies, obviously or darkly comic, don't really raise too many laughs...

Yeah, but even Black Comedies are wry and cynical and comic in their bleak views on the human condition. I didn't get any of that from In Bruges. For a moment, I wondered if everyone was calling it a comedy because a little person was in the cast. Reservoir Dogs has several funny one-liners, but never in a million years would I call it a comedy.

I got that completely from In Bruges, the comedy comes from the situations and violent reveals of human reveals, both good and bad. You do raise a good point with Reservoir Dogs though, they actually have the same themes and values as well. But In Bruges is just a bit more bleaker, yet more silly, than Reservoir Dogs, which has humour in the characters interactions but the situation is deadly serious.

i don't know how well these genre consensus threads will work as people's definition of what fits into a genre vary too wildly.

Default This could be tough -- but maybe not

1. Dr. Strangelove (Stanley Kubrick, 1964)
2. Modern Times (Charlie Chaplin, 1936)
3. Hannah and Her Sisters (Woody Allen, 1986)
4. Annie Hall (Woody Allen, 1977)
5. Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson, 2012)
6. Back to the Future (Robert Zemeckis, 1985)
7. Shrek (Pixar, 2001)
8. Playtime (Jacques Tati, 1967)
9. Crimes and Misdemeanors (Woody Allen, 1989)
10. (500) Days of Summer (Marc Webb, 2009)
11. Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen, 2011)
12. The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson, 2001)
13. Rushmore (Wes Anderson, 1998)
14. Mon Oncle (Jacques Tati, 1958)
15. Shrek 2 (Pixar, 2004)

All of the films I picked are generally classified as a comedy or a mix of comedy and something else. Like another person said, this list might not work out well because the opinions on what is "humor" vary wildly.
