I was wondering why I suddenly got 4 endorsements from my old posts on the Gustard H10 on Massdrop. Okay price, not too much more than they were listed for when I picked up the two I got from Massdrop a while back.

And I just noticed these have silver/aluminum feet instead of the gold color on the ones I have - silver/aluminum would match much better with the X20U DAC and Schiit stack... might have to get a third one... LOL

Spent a little bit of time with koover last weekend and heard the Klipsch HP-3 he has... very enjoyable headphone... a definite upgrade to Fostex biodynas to me. Similar low end and mids, but much better controlled and presented treble. Really enjoyed those. Let him hear the Nectar Sounds I sent over to Joe for the Phoenix meet that he didn't actually get a chance to actually hear during the meet. Set them up for him with the Koss EP9/X driver I sent with them for the meet and Schiit Loki, DFR, and laptop I brought with me on vacation. On first listen he started second guessing his HP-3s and had to immediately go listen to them to reassure himself he was still okay with the HP-3s... LOL Greg, I can understand somewhat what you going through my friend... directly comparing them back to back you can see where they different from each other. Like you said though, e-stats may be in your future...

And speaking of e-stats, my custom Bespoke Kaldas RR1's have shipped... should be getting them in middle of next week. I'll let everyone know what I think of them, but think they may be what koover would be looking for in an e-stat if they hold true of what nearly everyone who has them already says about them... highly looking forward to hearing them.

Here's a couple shots Aumkar sent me of them before they were shipped, color came out much better to me with the metallic flakes added in (before it was too flat grey looking):

And spending time with koover and listening to his tube amp setup got me actually seriously interested in trying out a tube amp. And well, I now have a tube amp coming in - it's not the Bottlehead SEX with C4S I always thought about in the past, but actually a hybrid tube amp that had interested me for a while as well:

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/proj...e-tube.916871/

Was about to order new from Garage 1217 (like I had it picked out and in cart ready for inputting payment...) but thought to see what was available used. Half price as new...and comes with 6NS7 adapter and Russian 6NS7GT tube.

Plan to ultimately use as tube buffer for my E-stat rig, will try it out with my Gustard rig first though.

Also, am very much enjoying the Beyerdynamic DT-177X GO that I recently got in... nice clean and punchy neutralish sound. The only things in my inventory I can put above them are my Etymotic ER3XRs and STAX SR-L300 Limiteds... kind of really digging these Beyers with the leather pads... no harsh treble or any unpleasant frequencies. Have them with me currently on vacation and loving their isolation (best I have other than the Etymotic ER3XRs) and punchy, clean sound with better presented and behaved highs than any of my Fostexes. I believe can honestly say it's my favorite closed back in my inventory - also brought my modded closed back Sennheiser HD58X and T60RP Argons and would rather listen to the DT-177X GO at any time...listening to it right now actually:

So I think I made a mistake...

Am floored by the Ember x Porta Pro combo... seriously thinking of selling most everything other than the e-stat setup and HD58Xs (because gaming). Man.... now I got to get Moar ToobZ!

Oh yeah, the Kaldas RR1 came in too - it's okay...has some issues that need to be worked out. Would rather listen to the Ember x Porta Pro than spend any time with the RR1 though. Somethings wrong with me... LOL.

P.S. the HD58X closed-back loves the TooBz Too... Verrry Nice, very similar sound to da Porta Pro but a little darker, with less bass and cleaner detail!
P.P.S. the DT-177X GO apparently was made fun of/bullied by ToobZ... refuses to cooperate with them.
P.P.P.S the Purplehearts are like ... meh... toobez are okay I guess.
P.P.P.P.S Argon Mk3 be like...mmm ToOOBZ GOOD!
P.P.P.P.P.S T60RP Argon likes TwuBeZ!, but maybe not quite as much as the MK3s?
P.P.P.P.P.P.S SHP9500 'okay' with tubes but prefers a SS diet

Man, the modded HD58X on TOOBZ simply is beautiful...seriously going to sell my Gustard H10 amps because of the Project Ember. The intonation detail and sense of space/separation and more palpable full bodied sound with punch is noticeably different - the HD58Xs have come alive. Music I know was bringing tears to my eyes with how beautiful it sounds - Karen Carpenter's 'Rainbow connection', Lena Raine's 'Fear of the Unknown', and AdyS' 'those last moments'. Really want to pick up a Project Polaris now...

Still alive mate. Happy New Years back at ya!

Not much to say. Just using the same old gear. Sounding too good to replace anything.
When I get around to it I will pick up the new Aeon Open M2 earpads and add them to my Aeon Open M1.

Yep... still alive. Sold off my Gustard amps along with two of my TH-X00s and now have 3 Garage 1217 amps: 2 Project Embers and a Project Polaris. Absolutely sold on the Garage 1217 amps - they are the perfect combo of sound, power, quality, options, style, and small size for my preference. Will be selling off my Argons soon... solidly preferring my modded TH-X00 Purpleheart over them in basically every way now with the Garage 1217 amps. Planars (magnetic) just aren't for me... electrostats are a different story though.

Hey all,
I'm still here too! Like Badas said, not much to say as I'm very happy with all my gear and have zero plans to even test the waters now or into the future. How much better can it get for me when I'm so happy with my sounds?

Hey Vracer, man, talking about jumping on the Garage 1217 bandwagon. I truly wish I didn't sell Ember as I loved it and it's such an excellent amp. Sounds awesome, the best bang for the buck for what you get and the tube rolling possibilities are endless. Such a fine little amp. Never heard the rest of Jeremy's amps but I heard you can't go wrong with any of them. He's also a great guy to support in this hobby.

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great New Years and it continues that way all the way through!

Well I got the two Project Embers used, both together came to just under the price of a new one... great deals found in the head-fi's classifieds, especially since good tubes were included. The Project Polaris was ordered brand new direct from Jeremy though... with the upgraded thumb-screws and mellow specced bandwidth option instead of the default aggressive specced bandwidth. Just ordered a spare 6H30Pi tube and 3 more tubes to try as well... Electro-Harmonix 12AY7/6072A, Mullard 12AT7/CV4024, and Tung-Sol 12AU7W/6189. The Purpleheart and Project Ember with E-H 6H30Pi tube is an absolutely magic combo... with EQ the subbass is INSANE and treble is perfect...mids are well defined and right in line depth wise with everything - so not forward nor back . Fallen in love with the Purplehearts all over again because of the Project Ember..

I'm also really liking the DT-177X GO, makes a most excellent gaming and movie headphone when pared with the RME ADI-2 DAC. Watched 'The Mandalorian' with them... was absolutely beautiful. Rewatched with my speakers and missed what I experienced with the DT-177X GO. The DT-177X GO is the way...

My Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones arrived, but I no longer need them. Includes the DAC/AMP. I ordered them mostly to listen to non-surround movies late at night, but now that I've moved the entire entertainment center including the seven speakers into my bedroom I'm not concerned about bothering my brother. I already have Sennheiser HD 558s and I normally just listen to music with my Audioengine A2+ desktop speakers. Should I return this package? Is it a significant enough upgrade to keep? I may ask Drop.com if they have a restocking fee for opened equipment, but I'm still tempted to try them out.

EDIT: Never mind, this sounds MUCH better than my DAC/AMP-less HD 558s.

Really good headphones will give you clarity and detailed sound you just don't get from speakers and great directional precision in gaming. Headphones and speakers do different things well. A well driven HD6XX is a great sounding headphone.

Hey! Happy new year!

Good to know everyone's still knocking about.
I've been super busy. Since August, I've been flying out of the country every 3-5 weeks for 1-2 weeks at a time, coming back, flying out. Went to London for a few days, came back on the 17th, then went to Vietnam on Christmas. Got back yesterday. I'm pretty tired.
Haven't listened to music much, but my gear is sitting there, beckoning and calling.

Things should be pretty settled down for now. My next flight is Singapore for CanJam in March. I plan to start getting back into a normal groove, and appreciating some good listening sessions again.

Two of the same tube amps with the same headphones being simultaneous fed from the same DAC really is great for comparing different tubes directly!

Got in the tubes I ordered... first up is comparing the Electro-Harmonix 6H30Pi I've been using and liking against a new Electro-Harmonix 12AY7. The 12AY7 is really impressive out of the box... overall smooth with slightly rolled off highs but still pretty clean and clear sounding, and the low end is just massively powerful and rich feeling without being bloated. It tested at 24,000 and 25,000 hours and was $24 for the Platinum grade from Upscale Audio... absolutely great match for the Porta Pros.

The 6H30Pi does have better top end presentation, but the mids and low end of this 12AY7 with just 2.5 hrs of run time on it now is more organic and powerful sounding... really sweet sounding! Need to try it with the Purplehearts and DT-177X to see if they like it, not going to bother with my modded HD58X since it's a really dark sounding headphone compared to everything else I have - totally not the kind of tube it likes from my experience. I've been very happy jamming to with the Porta Pros though, the ~50Hz punch is just so visceral with them on that tube and my EQ settings... Tron Legacy album is something else.

Also, no longer have the Argons, sold both the Mk3 and T60RP to someone and shipped them out today. No more planar magnetics for me... I love my dynamics and e-stats.

Dude, did you make those head bands for the porta pros??

They were made from MrSpeakers T50RP straps I originally ordered with plans for modding into custom M1060 straps. For the Porta Pro on Parts Express headband I punched two 3/16 holes 6.75" apart, trimmed total length to 7.75", and cut the leather to final shape. The strap is more for keeping it securely in place on head and adding comfort since the headband is so thin and has a much relaxed clamp. One of the most comfortable headphones... EVER. Never have had any issues with the stock Porta Pro headband pulling my hair.
