Interesting. They should have the option of the way it is now and to be able to pair it with a Vita and play all Vita games (touchscreen included). Makes no sense the way it is.

I wish that the PS4 would've been able to play Vita games.

I have always felt that Sony missed the mark by not allowing an PSP emulator/UMD drive on the PS3. I think that really would have opened up more people to their PSP games, while ultimately increasing peoples dire for the PSP.

I don't think that would or should have been an option in the middle of the PSP's life cycle for similar concerns of it possibly crippling handheld sales. Now something like that released after the Vita launched would have made more sense

I really am surprised we never got more PSP HD remasters as I can't recall any after GoW. I think maybe Monster Hunter got one but that's it which is a shame bc I remember a news report about a new engine that would have made it easier. I guess the possibility if the KH game if the upcoming collection gets a sequel. Crisis Core definetly should have been ported and many PSP titles like LocoRoco and Patapon would have made great PSN titles

Leave it to Sony to do something earthshatteringly amazing - and then completely undersell it.

This is like a stealth entry into the Apple TV / Google TV / Ouya arena. The Vita supports Playstation Mobile too.

We haven't heard a lot about playstation mobile lately, but with the SEN video download changes and this, Sony is moving interestingly close to a unified ecosystem where people might actually be encouraged to buy videos on SEN instead of Vudu or Amazon. (They just need to make PS Mobile available on more phones and allow SEN video access through it too.)

You know what's even more intriguing? It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to build a Vita TV right into a Bravia TV. Wanna bet that we aren't too far from that?

Just think of that for a moment... Buy a Sony TV with DS3 and have the built in ability to play PS1/PSP/Vita Games, watch SEN video content, access Music Unlimited, access Netflix and such, and remote play your PS4!

This is huge - though Sony doesn't seem to be hitting it with the same fanfare an Apple, Google, or MS would... I'm wondering if they are not getting it or if they are intentionally trying to do it low key and see if they can sneak it out and gain addoption before competitor realize just how impactful this could end up being.

There is a good chance I may buy one for myself to pair with the bedroom PS3 instead of a second PS4 at some point and I may even pick one up for a friend I've been trying to get onto PS gaming who just can't afford to go buy a PS3 or PS4 right now...

Edit - Only trick it looked like they missed was adding a spot to plug in an Eye. Would have been great if you could use it to do video chat on the PSN too.

I would probably buy one as its more of a console than a handheld. I havn't used my PSP in awhile or any of my other portables (GBA SP, DSLite, GameGear, Nomad) for that matter.

My first though if it was "what were they thinking?", especially since there are games that require the touchscreen to work with it. I can't imagine playing a game like "Virtue's Last Reward" without using the touchscreen.

Thinking a little bit, it's not a bad idea actually as a streaming box alternative. I'd still prefer a vita model with an HDMI mini output, or as Raijin suggested, having the PS4 capable of playing vita games. I do hope it's more of a supplement for the Vita, such as being able to have both your downloads on the vita and the TV device and transfer saves between them (especially useful for RPGs).

I don't like that the bare bones model device doesn't come with a controller. I have only two Dualshock 3 controllers (one reserved for my gaming PC), which I don't feel I want to jettison one of them for the Vita TV, although I wouldn't have a problem if I had more than 2 controllers. The bundle doesn't look appealing to me since I'd rather get that new 64GB card for my Vita and take my older 32Gb card in refuge for the TV device. I do wonder if you can use a PS3 bluray remote with it?

Keep in mind though, everything here is for the Japanese consumer. For everybody else in the world, it may be slightly different.

Bundles, promotion, features, etc.

Please pardon my ignorance but I am still a bit confused as to how you can play a PS4 game on a different T.V. than the one the PS4 is connected to.

For example, If I have a PS4 connected to my living room T.V. and have a PS Vita TV connected to the TV in my bedroom will I be able to access my PS4 in my bedroom?

Currently, I have a PS3 connected via wired internet in my living room and a Roku 3 connected in my bedroom via wi-fi. I can also get wi-fi in my living room but the wired connection is more solid so I use that. I don't have the option for wired internet in my bedroom.

Any clarification would be much appreciated. The thought of being able to utilize a PS4 in both my living room and bedroom is quite exciting.

looking at this thing, I wonder if this could lead to a potential PS3 add on to the PS4 in the future? For a $100, a device that would just take the components necessary to run the PS3 software that connects to the PS4 for its bluray drive and memory

I doubt it. I think VitaTV and PS4 will get PS3 and PS2 compatibility through gaikai. PS4 might get PS2 compatibility through native Sotware Emulation.

EDIT:
Will copy and paste what I put on another forum.

I think this device is already superior to other over the top tv devices (roku, apple) and even rumored upcoming ones (google, ms, amazon) in terms of gaming but is seriously lacking behind in terms of multimedia and apps.

In terms of multimedia, the vita tv will only offer you on demand movies and tv shows to buy/rent and netflix. On apple tv you are able to do all that + buy MP3 music + download a number of different apps and streaming services, such as hulu plus, last.fm, crackle, hbo go, etc etc. It stands to reason that the other rumored devices will have similar offerings at launch as well.

IMHO vitatv will need to up its app store significantly prior to launch. It will then need to add premium and free multimedia apps on a weekly basis in order to catch up to the competition. I also think that, even though it has music unlimited radio streaming option, it needs to have a "buy" option and a music store integrated with SEN. The fact that the device is ahead in the gaming department does not mean it can lack behind in the multimedia department.

Theoretically, the vita is supposed to be able to use any android app that is playstation mobile certified, right?

I don't disagree with your observations and Sony has been horrible about taking advantage of playstation mobile - but I wonder if that is a door that basically opens up any play store app that wants to be there. It's almost like the Kindle Fire curated space.

House: SCE will release the PS Vita TV in Japan Nov 14, 2013, and in other countries after that. The reason why it will be launched in Japan earlier than in other countries is that there is no leading company in Japan's video streaming market. The company is planning to sell the PS Vita TV in China, South Korea, etc, but not in the US and European market at this point.
