Good interview, thanks. Tarantino was very composed in that interview.

Here, he lets his frustration out with the interviewer.

I remember hearing that when Elvis came along in the 50's, he was blamed for warping kids' minds with his evil rock 'n roll.

I did find amazon.com lists some VR 3D head sets that work with phones anyway.

Now that I have a good look at the interior, I can see many of the VR headsets do have the viewmaster set up for the eyes, where each eye is separated by plastic and individual circular glass. I originally thought it would be like looking at a single big screen inside the headset.

Canada Blu-ray 3D movies using VR headsets

Just noticed that forum member Oniichan lists the HTC Vive as part of his equipment set-up. Can Oniichan, or anyone else, let us know if it is possible to watch Blu-ray 3D content on a VR rig and, if so, what the experience is like?

Thanks

I'm not really keen on watching 3D Blu-ray with a VR headset.
With one exception. Only if this is the only way to watch HFR 3D. Beyond that, I still prefer watching Blu-rays on TV.

My understanding is that there are no current VR headsets capable of playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
Even the Avegent Glyph was originally planed to use the chip, but the plan was thwarted because of R&D costs being too expensive to make the chip small enough to fit in the headset.
MVC decoding is required for full-frame simultaneous HD stereo images.
Side-by-side 3D is present but a capable chip is needed for MVC stream decoding.

I have converted several of my blurays to work with my iphone 6s plus using a VR headset. If you convert the 3D bluray to side by side, you can use an app called Mobile VR station to appropriately warp the image and adjust the virtual screen size. It looks really good once everything's set up. The resolution of course, isn't nearly as good as my 4K TV, but the depth is really good and on imax movies you almost feel like you're there.

If you convert a 3d bluray to a SBS mkv, it plays in Gear VR in 3d. It's a little weird though because it's like looking at a fish tank - the 3d pops out of the virtual screen inside the Virtual space.

Thanks Paul. Hopefully there is a developer working on it as we speak.

Thanks for the details. At least that's an option, though it sounds like a time involved task.

Picked up an Oculus Go, and watched Avatar in 3D for the first time in eight years. Iíve never owned a 3D TV as I couldnít afford it, and I gotta say the Oculus Go has been an affordable alternative. Avatar really loses something in 2D, and seeing the 3D version again brought back so many feelings from the first time I saw it.

Gonna watch Jurassic Park 3D next.

The PSVR headset plays back 3D Blu-ray just fine.

hello gentlement, i have a oculus rift set and casualy last weekend i has been testing a lot of formats of 3d movies and can confirm many 3d formats works tested with 3 main apps for movies skybox, bigscreen and virtual space, some apps not work with default settings, a some tweaks are necessary but in the end work and seems ok, example i rip coco 3d in sbs half resolution and seem ok full 3d effects, also i tried a lot of demos in sbs half resolution / full resolution also blueray samples top / bottom half resolution and full resolution, scrips with 48 - 60 fps but 60 fps its too much for my pc with oculus enabled (a lot of missing frames) but 48 looks smooth in 3d, i going to test more in the next weekend so if you have some recomendation on formats to test please tell me, see you around.

Wow. A 2 year thread bump. A lot has happened since.

I got the PlayStation VR not too long ago, as my 3D TV was showing signs of failure, and the PSVR became my contingency plan.

I have to say it's a decent alternative. The resolution is a little low, but seeing how 3D TVs are either nearly extinct or too expensive, I can't really complain. Once my TV breaks, I'm moving on to 4K.

So for someone totally new to 3D, is there a (relatively) inexpensive way to view this (supposed) file if one could find it without dropping a few thousand on a setup? Could a VR headset like the oculus Go work for this?

You mean like a dvd you could just put in your blu ray player?

If you don't have a 3D TV or projector your options for watching films in 3D are very limited. I don't know much about VR headsets though...

So am I correct in assuming you do not already have a 3D tv and blu-ray player? I haven't been in the market for 3D tv's for a while, but I believe they are getting tough to find and seem to be a dying breed unfortunately. I haven't used Oculus Rift or any VR device, but I believe it would be possible. In fact, I'm pretty sure the PS4 VR plays 3D blu-rays. Do you have a PS4 by chance?

I do have a PS4 pro, would it be possible to get this file onto the PS4 and using the PSVR, view it in 3D? Or through any other kind of headset?
