If you’re a fan of 3D movies, and you own PlayStation VR, we’ve got good news — this update adds the ability to view 3D movies in stereoscopic 3D directly on the PS VR headset. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!

Default Have Playstation VR? 3D Blu-ray support is coming!

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2017...-starts-today/

"3D Blu-ray support for PlayStation VR

If you’re a PS VR owner, you can now use your PS4 to play 3D Blu-ray discs and watch them in stereoscopic 3D via your headset."

This is great news!!

I just read about this on Pushsquare.com regarding PS4 firmware 4.50:

"And last but not least, 3D Blu-Ray support is being added to PlayStation VR, which, naturally, means that you'll be able to watch 3D moves through your headset. Pretty cool. The update will be landing at some point in the next few weeks."

Does this mean that 3D isn't dead!?!?!?

It certainly does.

I'd rather watch my 3D TV but there are times it annoys my wife, so a headset is an alternative I'd consider, if the quality was right and I can get the thing over my glasses.

Maybe someone with PSVR can chime in...

I've read when watching a 2D movie, you're just looking at a giant screen like in the theater.

With 3D being added, will each eye get it's own separate 'view' per the headset?

Do the games even work that way in VR? I'm really clueless about how VR works.

Either way, 3D support is a value-add for the product although I heard they are hard to find.

Quality will be granier than we are used to with normal 3D. However, this is still good news. Looking forward to trying it out.

The middle size setting is the best. It's the equivalent of a 80 inch tv from 6 feet away roughly I understand. I found it to be fine but it does have (obviously) a 'blown up' look to it and it will look grainy compared to a regular Bluray. I watched the Dark Knight that way and it was very watchable. Mind you, I had just been on YouTube 360 VR, where the quality is horrid, so it may have just looked far better than it was lol.

Overall, very watchable and if 3D is just as watchable (I don't know how it works exactly, compared to a normal 3D player) it will be a good thing for all us 3D fans.

This is awesome news! With 3D TV bowing out, this will be an excellent alternative once my 3D TV is busted.

So now maybe I can just focus on getting a 4K Dolby Vision TV in the future.

I'm hoping they come up with something better than just looking at a floating screen.

Why not just give each eye a total separate view with 100% field of view?

I'm hoping for total immersion here.

From the reviews I've read, the Sony VR headset should fit over your glasses without issue and that's it's one of the more comfortable VR headsets for accommodating prescription glasses.

It fits over my glasses perfectly. It has a front slider that can be brought forward at ease then locked in place. It works fine to my relief as I was concerned about how it would be when I first got it.

You would need a 8K screen to do it justice. a 4K screen would (I understand) give you around 720p quality. It would look good but the kind of quality we truly desire would need a 8K display in the headset.

That's why I laugh when people moan about 8K. Of course we need it, it's a necessity for video in VR.

By the way, obviously all games are automatically 3D and the 3D effect is stunning. It really is a technology you have to experience for yourself, but it left me stunned when I first tried it.

Now if only you could actually buy one from somewhere that hasn't jacked up its prices.

I tried out a VR headset on that Rogue One level from Star Wars Battlefront, it was absolutely stunning and so immersive.

I was just asking myself, do I REALLY want to go on holidays for a week or do I want to buy a PS4 and VR headset...

LOL I still have the Sony 3D movie viewer sitting in a box somewhere that I haven't touched in like 4 years.

Funnily enough CEX will give me almost the same amount for it that a VR would cost me, so I may just be able to have both!
