Edit: Having played this before (Even though, I only got about maybe 60% through it last time) I decided to start with Toadette. She makes it a lot easier to get the star coins and secrets because you dont have to do trick jumps. Definitely overpowered. She is fun to play with though. Now Nabbit, no point in playing as him, unless you have young kids of course.

Visually, it gets a slight, but noticeable bump, not that it's ever been a game to push limits by any means.

Picked it up tonight. Always a fan of side scroller games, I had the DS version then the Wii version. Excited to play it again.

The only game from the "New" series I haven’t played is 2.

There are four (or five if you count the Switch port) games in the series:

New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Switch)

Do you think it’s worth getting 2 for 3DS? I read mixed reviews on it.

I dont think it's the strongest entry in the series, but it's still fun, particularly the gold flower where you get to change everybody into coins (not that I ever got the million coins). 3D is pretty much non existent if that matters to you.

Also, NSMB1 is for DS, not 3DS.

NSMB2 is definitely a fun game. It’s more about getting coins than the other games in the series. I think it’s worth it IMO. Also you forgot about the New Super Luigi U version of the game. I can’t wait to play that on the switch.

I didn't forget, it comes bundled with the game; on both consoles. So I didn't count it as a separate purchase.

New Super Luigi U was originally a separate release on Wii U, but they eventually combined them both physically and in the digital versions and stopped selling the separate release.

You can still find copies of the separate Wii U releases physically, but they tend to be pricey since they’ve been out of print for a while.

The Luigi game is a joke theybdont give you enough time to get everything like they do with Mario you have to basically run though the game without barely getting anything. They’ve also shorten the time on the Switch version for Mario. Nintendo just should get rid of the time clock there’s no need for it.

I wish Nintendo would port over Super Mario 3D World.

They could even combine it with 3D Land and release it as a "Definitive Edition" like they did with Hyrule Warriors.

I agree Mario portion would be better without the timer.

The Luigi game on the other hand was designed to be a much harder game catering to the speed runner crowd that likes getting through hard platform game levels quickly. So that’s just part of the design and it’s just not for you which is fine. It was meant as harder expansion to the main game for people who found it too easy.

Personally I think 3D Land is far superior to 3D World. But being a 3DS game it would take a lot more work to make a Switch version that looks good. A Switch version would be over 21 times the resolution (400x240 vs 1920x1080).

I'm still hopeful that at some point the 3DS will be discontinued and Nintendo will entirely focus on the Switch. That would mean every game would have both a home and portable version without any porting needed.

That was my hope when first seeing the reveal trailer in 2016, but so far hasn't been the case.

When watching it in October of that year, I thought to myself "Finally, no more having to buy 3DS Zelda games" (The only reason I bought a 3DS in the first place was to play A Link Between Worlds)

Amazon third party sellers is not a good indicator of price, best indicator is ebay sold listings, which for the physical standalone go from $20 - $50, which the latter seems to be the exception and not the rule. Beyond that a used copy on GameStop is $30. If it was crazy hard to get a hold of GS would certainly taking advantage.
I have the standalone and tried it when it first came out but quickly gave up because of the difficulty and I am generally decent at Mario platformers.

Back on topic, I bought NSMBUD over the weekend and got pretty far into it then accidentally deleted my file yesterday. I was so frustrated but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I started over and got back close to where I was before I deleted but am in better shape as far as coins collected and lives.

Like you guys said I really hope they port Mario 3D World, I completed 3D Land for 3DS but I never had a Wii U so i never played 3D World.

If they ported 3D World to Switch, I wonder how they’d handle the touch screen portions (if playing docked) and the bits where you had to blow into the mic on the GamePad.

The same way they handled it in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, for the touch parts.
No idea about the mic, maybe map it to a button?
