Default Anxiety Discussion Thread

Thought I'd make an anxiety thread. Given the times we are in, I imagine a lot of us with underlying anxiety conditions are going through hell at this time. I know I am.

Please try and avoid overly reassuring people. Offer constructive advice.

I have them occasionally, also occasional panic attacks. My gf is a retired medical professional (among her other careers), and she "talks me down" and helps me to relax. Anything from calming conversation to managing hyperventilation, she's there for me.

On occasion I get mild anxiety. All of this started up within the last few months. Been putting too much stress on myself too. Trying to ease back to the Zen state of mind because I think all of this shit finally took a toll on me.

With the anxiety I had two or three breathing attacks. Not sure if I can call them anxiety attacks; all I know is it affected my breathing, like I was having issues with breathing normally.

My answer to all of this is smoking weed. It helps A LOT. But I can't smoke (been clean 4 weeks) because I need to look for a job. CBD is also a damn good help, but the affect doesn't last as long as weed.

Whenever there is something important going on In my life there often is a blockade or something that might mess things up, I start to panic and curse my life decisions until I started listening to Jordan Peterson. I wasn't a big fan of motivational speakers and psychologists but once I was stuck in something and I opened YouTube and there was this one video of him that said "Overcome anxiety" and the way he explained things made me feel motivated and courageous that I can overcome the challenges that I was currently facing and if I panic or stressed about it, it would make it even worse.

Most of the time you just need to start, starting is the most difficult part but once you do it things get themselves into the order that you are wishing and it gets easier and better!

I know things are different for everyone and this would not work for all of you but if you are ever panicking or having an anxiety attack you can go and watch him he gives really good pieces of advice and I have tried some of them and it had really helped me!

We all go through anxiety at different points in our lives. The key is to figuring out how to deal with it. There is no magical cure that will work for everybody. Some people require medication or counselling to help them through it. Some people can deal with it on their own once they figure out what works for them.

Here's an example: A person I know can get anxious when they don't know what's going to happen. The key for this person is to have few surprises in their life. The daily schedule stays the same each day as much as possible. If plans for the future are being made, this person just needs a little extra time to process the change and ask any questions that they may need answered.

Finding out what makes you anxious is the most important part. Once you do that, you can start working on how to make that trigger easier for your to deal with.
